#introduction Let's do this!

Hi, I am a scientist at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺, with interests in #microbiology, #bioinformatics and #computerscience.

I focus on the human #microbiota and its link with health and other traits. Before that, I worked for 10+ years on #pathogen #genomics, #ecology and #evolution in the UK.

I hope this platform will create a friendly and inclusive academic community!

I would appreciate tips to find people to follow in biology, cs, genomics and anything in between.

#HugOps to @Gargron and others trying to keep mastodon.social (and other Fediverse instances) up and running under the weight of new folks. You are appreciated.

In that first decade of learning to code, "logging" was not a concept. Something so painfully useful that seems so simple until you dig in...

Experiencing a lot of crashes with 10.6.3 on Windows. I hope they fix it soon. Don’t feel like installing chrome on my vm so I am using Edge(which is actually decent tbh).

I appreciate that not only is there a new CD-i game in 2022(!), but it's open source. The CD-i standard itself has been open source for years, but having this source code means an actual practical example you can reference if you want to make something for it.

2022: the CD-i renaissance is real.

Wow, the #Fediverse sure is hopping with activity lately. Can't complain, though. Welcome if you're #newhere!

"Few to no legitimate use-cases for this technology have been found; instead it is mostly used for fraudulent “get rich quick” schemes and to facilitate criminal activity, [...] These projects often encourage large-scale energy waste and electronics waste, which contributes to the declining health of Earth’s environment."

💪 Thanks for this decision, @drewdevault

My favorite group of costumes were heinz condiments. There was someone dressed as mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish and bbq. The best part for them is it was low effort because they all just had sweatshirts with the color of the label and the the heinz logo itself. Smart kids!

I am setting up a code pong style gamedev project around the @dosgameclub community

The idea is to iteratively and collaboratively create a DOS game, using C and DJGPP. It is open to all interested and I hope to keep a low barrier to participation, which is to happen in short(ish) turns.

Bonjour! #introduction

👩‍💻 I'm a software developer based in Montréal (Canada), interested in all STEAM fields - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics. I share my time between engineering software development, my young family and music/arts. I'm especially interested in ideas and projects that link maths, code and arts.

Looking forward to seeing what's happening here on Mastodon, et j'espère aussi suivre ce qui se passe sur les communautés francophones!

Time to hand out some candy for the kids, jello shots for the parents. :)

Time for an #introduction I guess.

I am:

- #Eindhoven native
- Physicist by training
- Software developer by profession (industrial and medical equipment, mainly #C++, but also #C and #Python)
- Electronics tinkerer (#ESP8266, #D1Mini, #mechanicalkeyboards, #platformio, #kicad)
- Smart home hobbyist (#HomeAssistant, #MQTT, #Tasmota)
- Into #selfhosting (#docker, #mailpile, #pihole)

The 16 bit remakes of the original mario games have a lot better audio than the original versions. Not quite worthy of being on Tidal but it’s neat to hear the difference.

Hi all!

I am Akanksha, currently working as a research tech at HHMI Janelia Research Campus, engineering bioluminescent proteins for functional imaging.

My research interests lie at the interface of chemistry, biology, and engineering 🔬. 'A tool developer' describes me best - in the dry lab, I was working on a systems biology project involving detecting hard-to-find nucleotide changes with certain effects from human transcriptome datasets. Transitioning to a wet lab, I have been engineering proteins for various applications.

Being an avid learner, I spend a lot of time reading articles from across various sub-disciplines in bioscience and biotech. I'm happiest when brainstorming ideas in molecular/synthetic biology or new tools that don't exist with a near-perfect cup of coffee☕ ! Always happy to connect over a crazy idea!

Cheers!

Hello all,
In my professional life I’m a full stack software developer (mainly Java - Angular), with an interest in Identity and Access Management and Secure Software Development.
After work I like playing the piano, cooking and coaching at CoderDojo.
I have a general interest in technology, science and mathematics.

#introduction I'm Carl Boettiger. I'm a theoretical ecologist and data scientist at Berkeley. I'm interested in #rstats, #openscience, #opensource #python, #linux, & #teaching. Feels lovely to have a timeline instead of an algo once more, & so many friends here!
