If y'all get a chance, check out my transcript for one of my old videos, YouTube Must Die now on @counterculture.

It's kinda old but the fact that half the videos I used as clips are now either deleted or the channels themselves have been terminated serve as testament to how bad the on has gotten.

Welcome to the Blogger's Row. 😉

A suggestion if you don't mind, maybe reduce images size a bit?

The ones in the middle of page are overwhelming the text around it a bit.

@design_RG @counterculture Thank you!

How about this? I tweaked the CSS a little bit.

It did throw off the iframes though, so I will have to make more changes later.

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture

You are welcome, glad you don't mind my suggestion and comment.

I will have to go and look it up again.

Do you need to use all that armament to prep a post? I only use commands, and it results in some nice pages.

Manually size the images to my liking, and replace them if they look wrong size.

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture Just visited again, and the images look right now.

You do have a lot of inline Video boxes, and maybe could break the post into two or three pages - they will load faster and smoother without so many calls to YT at once.

Header at the top of the page, I would lighten the size down a notch, possibly?

@design_RG @counterculture

I've considered it. I would prefer to move the rest of the article closer to the header, as I like the bold aesthetic the large header gives off but I feel like there's some wasted space there.

I would consider removing some of the videos, but I would prefer it if the blog page didn't load the entirety of every article, it makes the whole thing bloated. I wonder if there's an option where I can hide the content of the articles of the blog page.

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture
I would suggest breaking it up into sequential posts, possibly?

I like the simplicity of write.freely.

If you like more controls and lots of tools and options, maybe WordPress?

They also are fediverse aware and there are some instances listed at fediverse.network

@design_RG @counterculture

Maybe.

However, the article does not make much sense without the videos...perhaps a remedy for the size issue could be to replace the videos with links and shrink the article text a tad... 🤔

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture

Don't cut text, that's what a writing piece is all about.

Remove the inline video and problem solved. Place screenshots, static, and make them links, but KEEP your readers.

If you load zillions videos who is going to read?

Too much stimuli, bad for concentration, imo.

@design_RG @counterculture

Ah yes! I didn't mean to remove the text, but to reduce the size.

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture ...as in, Font size?

No, don't do it. The text is decent as is, you just make it harder to read.

A blog page in my view is primarily a piece of writing, images are complements or used as fillers by someone with less things to say.

I love the plain back screen I get in write.freely in Night mode, and it operates so fast. Lovely software.

Someone mentioned Plume and I have an account there now too, but not sure if i like it so much for sheer writing tasks; their editor is smaller and slower than the writing freely one, and that is something I am already used to and enjoying...

On the good side, they allowing easy indexing via tags, seaches for related pages in your blong, linking to each other. And they offer in house image hosting too.

That makes it a lot easier for someone starting up, but i like to have my images in a separate image host; my bolg pages can be moved from one instance to another, or duplicated, very simply - copy paste, and it's functional when I hit the save button.

Plume has good thing though, as does write.freely.

I will write a report on my thoughts in blog form sometime.

@design_RG @counterculture I've decided to eventually go through and replace the videos with links when I have time to comb through them all. It's the easiest solution IMHO

@realcaseyrollins @counterculture

Tweaking things is good, I do get a thrill when I can shave off Bytes from my images by selecting the formats, maybe crop a bit more. Sometimes it's .png that does best, others .jpeg is tighter.

And then I remember the next day that people are really wasting most of the bandwidth of the net with videos, argh.

But I like to do my best, tight, clean, as small as possible.
