#newusers #QOTO #Fediverse #STEM focused Instance
@design_RG Current trend is probably closer to 4% of applications wind up being accepted.
As of yet I dont think we have rejected a single application that was actually filled in. Virtually all rejections were due to having no text or what text it has is clearly spam or a single word.
@freemo Yes, I just checked email and saw to sequential applications -- from the same user (same email, just not getting what we are asking -- both blank forms).
Hopefully this thread can be seen by curious new prospective users, and they can understand what this is all about.
For now, the 4% is good - - they READ and respond to the text. Kind of people we can welcome in a Sci Tech Eng Math focused instance...
@design_RG The 4% is probably about where the active and interested user count was before, minus random foreign accounts.
I have no problem with a 4% figure. Though it does mean we will quickly drop out as being seen as a "leader" in the fediverse community as other instances over take us in user count.
whether we care about that or not is another matter.
@freemo More Fun to be head....
Just returned, a sunny day and lots of people out riding bikes, after a miserable cold week, we all needed it.
And then, This.
LOL... Loved Approving ONE valid account that was waiting, and taking this Snapshot.
Didn't think it would be so much Fun, to use that * Nuke_Them_All * button. 😜
Goodbye, Johnies... #Fediverse #Rejects #spammers #Qoto
@design_RG just make sure you save all those cam girl links for later when you get bored :)
@freemo LOL.... Yeah, we got the snapshot here, and on Discourse Forum too. 😛
@freemo The real thrill seems to be Approving an account, so far -- to have someone who understands we expect a response, and provides it.
Those I heartly Welcome to Qoto. Just pushed that button a sec ago. 😄
@freemo I am thinking of a campaign here, to get people involved and interacting, like we used to have (up to end of December, certainly).
It's not the sheer numbers of incoming users that makes an interesting, lively Local Timeline, but the contents people bring, and us relating to each other.
Too many posts go unacknowledged. A small comment, a boost, a Favourite, a thank you to the poster makes a big difference.
Make Qoto Great Again is a campaign. I am working on it. We will get support if we explain and show, by example, cajoling, etc.
Cleaning up the place is a good start. 😄
@freemo I must have missed the topic you are referring to. The FS flag waving people are quite weird, imo, it's a very localized world view that is odd for most other countries.
Glad you got out of it -- not arguing with stupid is a good thing. 😛
@design_RG my main concern coming out of it is realizing that being middle road, level headed, not extreamist to any ideal is the sure way to be hated by everyone.
It makes it seem like the FS instances dont like us either now, who were really our biggest supporters in the past.
So why bother even trying to be reasonable anymore.
No, we were discussing a hypothetical situation where I said I would have gotten the lawyer involved.
There was a person threatening to kill me and others, something he has done many times over the course of months. I mentioned if he continued the attacks and tried to sign up to QOTO to continue those attacks (giving us access to his IP address) under that hypothetical situation I would get a lawyer involved.
I did not however say this to the troll itself, it was a private message to p where I mentioned it.
@freemo I am not impressed by what I have seen in general from some of the FS instances.
Not that I follow them closely, I do have some good contacts at p's instance, but they are great people that don't need to wrap themselves in a flag.
Think about things and maybe reconsider editing our About/more page once again? I don't think many people read it at ALL, and even less of those would care for FS statements.
Personal opinion -- those actually turned me off when reading the page, upon first joining here; I was afraid it could be rife with arguments.
I Follow people I care for. I block Stupid. I block whole instances in extreme cases, in my personal account, as any mastodon user can equally do.
@design_RG I tend to regularly get comments on discourse, email, and privately reassuring me they picked QOTO for the free speech. It is also a moral principle for me that would be hard for me to abandon and be ok with it morally.
@freemo You have created a rich platform, with multiple services, stable, backed up daily, and not asking anyone for a penny to cover the significant monthly and recurring costs for all that.
And the mastodon instance is unique on it's Theme - that is what I consider the most important thing (besides the positives in the last paragraph above).
So, thank you for all this effort and hard work.
I am sure you don't get anywhere near the proper recognition for all that. But it's important, and many people would agree, I think.
@design_RG I apprecaite that, and I'm sure many people feel the same, some do tell me.
I am more disheartened about the world I suppose. My main moral fight the past few years has been against left and right extreamist ideologies that seem to run rampant.
This recent expiernce just reminds me of how big of a problem it is, even with people I had previously had some respect for (like p)
@design_RG Part of thast is my own fault. I'm far less engaged than I used to be. When there is drama I tend to just tune out..
todays drama with the free speech dudes had me about to go into that mode too. I was event hinking of just starting a new instance from scratch and saying "fuck it". Then I came to my senses.
