@alecui I'd like to believe they're a minority.. I'd be less worried then. I have been in touch, sadly, with some people like that and there's a ton of reasons behind that hatred; most common are fear of the unknown or unfamiliar to them, and projection along with reaction formation.. but that usually pops out when you ask those people what's their problem with lgbti+ and see them to their face... their expressions, their tone... sometimes it's just ignorance and the right wing media taking effect.
@peterdrake what's diablo? :0

The dangerous reality in any democracy is that the end result of apathy or ignorance is exactly the same as unlimited tolerance. If you do nothing while bad actors work to destroy your democracy—no matter how perfectly designed or implemented—then eventually enough checks and balances will be circumvented and you’ll wake up to find you’re living in a fascist, authoritarian, oligarchic state.
Excusing the people of Texas by observing that gerrymanders, suppression and corrupt judiciary make it very hard NOW to alter the situation conveniently ignores the slow but reversible erosion that led up to the current situation.
Fascists rely on and encourage apathy and ignorance, not good will and tolerance, and the only remedy is active resistance.
Otherwise they’ll always win.
Soooo.... Youtube has somehow recommended me some channels and videos from far-right media and personalities and it caught my attention how apparently for this movement left = evil. I decided I wanted to understand why. I advocate for LGBTI+ rights and fight against racism so the question came: "how can make you care about others and having the willingness to give up some Individual freedoms for a greater good, evil? I actually fail to see why someone would find 'evil' a person who loves someone of the same sex. By navigating through this content I think I partially found the answer.
You see, apparently for some christian extremists the battle between good and evil isn't in the earth itself, but within us and our human nature, according to the bible. Our human nature dictates that we all feel sexual pleasure and look after it, but if you want to be a good person you must find a way to supress the desire and follow god's path which is staying virgin until marriage. That view, to me, explains why the far right sees homosexual people as degenerate evil people. It seems that for them homosexual people cannot and have no intention to fight this battle of supressing their human nature and be 'good', thus, are against god and his will.
I have three problems with such view tho:
1) Apparently we all have different spiritual battles, since this battle is not the same for the white straight male than for a lesbian. Basically they want some people to make an extra effort to fit their concept of good.
2) That concept of good. Why is 'evil' to accept our humanity to begin with? what's the LOGIC behind? I mean, just because a 2000-year-old book tells so I am supposed to accept that concept of 'good'? ... no way. For me is quite simple. If you hurt someone or put someone in a bad situation for your sole interests, then you're being evil. I'd like to deepen that view tho.
3) Since rarely someone comes virgin to their marriage, it means you haven't been able, as christian, to fight your own human nature, which would make you evil... not to mention all the sins according to the bible; so who are you to ask someone to achieve something you couldn't?
I think I still have a lot to learn about this interesting wicked world, but for now, those are my conclusions.
I still find it interesting how senior programmers value readability and clean code over the easy way ♥. They also create solutions that might be "the harder way" but the best ones, covering each scenario!
"<<" is a bitwise operator (bit shift) and pushes zeros from the left. So "x<<1" would mean pushing a zero from left to binary number x: 13<<1 => 00001101 -> 00011010 = 26.
Clean code tells a lot about a programmer and even though at the beginnind I didn't want to become an expert in this area, I want to now (still a long waaayy tho!). Thanks for that teaching, you. I've learned more than what I could show in that short period and I still value and remember that.

DIRECT MESSAGING
DMs on Mastodon work differently than on other platforms.
Graham Cluley, a well-respected British security blogger with a sharp sense of humor (and host of the Smashing Security podcast) has this to say:
“Imagine you are having a direct message conversation with someone on Mastodon about a sensitive subject.
Maybe George and Paul are bantering via direct message on Mastodon, and one of them says “I’ll tell you who’s a twit. That bloody @Ringo”
Well, because @Ringo has been mentioned in the chat, he now sees a copy of the message too. Ouch, that’s awkward.
This would be particularly dangerous if you were communicating with another Mastodon user to report abusive behaviour. Suddenly your abuser knows you are complaining about them.
Email doesn’t work like that. Twitter direct messages don’t work like that.
(Sorry Ringo for using your name in this example, Peace and Love man!)”

Marcus Hutchins pointed out -- in his excellent overview “A Twitter User's Guide to Mastodon”:
“Something to also be wary of is similar to how Twitter staff can read your DMs, so can Mastodon instance staff. If you send a DM to someone on another instance, both the staff on the sending and receiving instance could read your message if they wanted to. Just like on any social media platform, I do not advise using DMs to share sensitive information. Use DMs for normal discussions, or exchanging contacts. Any sensitive information should be sent via an End-to-end encrypted messaging app like Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram, or Wire.”
