This is one of many hair ropes used during the reconstruction of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in 1895 in Kyoto. As there was no rope strong enough to hoist the temple’s massive wooden beams, in response, female devotees cut off their hair and braided it into strong and thick ropes [682x1631]

In many senses, I find #qoto sets high standards for communication in #fediverse. You have enabled connected services, allowed 65K characters, you have robust policy, we can use markdown in posts, and you are also very welcoming, responsive, and open community!

5.4 magnitude earthquake hits West Texas, with reports of shaking all the way in Austin.

The earthquake was likely caused by oil and gas industry activity in the area.

KUT's Mose Buchele reported in 2019 that earthquake activity in the state has "skyrocketed" in recent years because of increased oil and gas activity.

Did you feel the earthquake? The USGS asks that you fill out an online survey to let it know.
