"But the purpose of criminal law isn't to punish people for being jerks, and it's a perverted society that thinks everything offensive or bad must be criminalized." reason.com/2023/07/18/poll-mil

"Like all moral panics, this one gets used to justify hatred against perceived outsiders, in this case immigrants and queer and trans people." vox.com/culture/23794355/sound

I know it's summer and we all just want to chill but it's time to start paying attention to the slate of bad Internet bills (think: KOSA, EARN IT Act, Cooper Davis, RESTRICT Act etc).

There's a quiet push forming in the Senate. We need to get really loud right now to stop these.

As we've long predicted, the misapplication of obscenity laws hasn't stopped with the most taboo content. Some states are now going after companies that support the LGBTQ community - and using these dangerous laws as justification.

"Though deeply disturbing, Shiny Happy People casts a light on what happens when religion attempts to control people’s sexuality. The result is widespread emotional, psychological and physical abuse resulting in molestation, rape and domestic violence." ynot.com/duggars-documentary-r

I’m a month into my work w/@ProstasiaInc@qoto.org. I have never felt happier to feel so continuously ignorant about so many things. The chance to actually #learn about things I never felt I had the time for in #academia is astonishing. To say I’ve been questioning my life choices is an understatement. It’s amazing how wonderful it is to work for an organization whose mission I do strongly believe in.

Give Prostasia Foundation a follow today. If you want to get involved, #hmu.

"Are you passionate about keeping kids safe? What about defending digital privacy? Or standing up for the rights of minorities? You can do all of the above when you volunteer for the Prostasia Foundation." forum.prostasia.org/t/prostasi

"LGBTQ+ researchers and advocates have also noted an increase in threats of violence and hate speech targeted at LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, ever increasingly with the intention of stifling trans rights and canceling drag events." eff.org/deeplinks/2023/06/arou

Reports of abusive content can give law enforcement the evidence they need to stop abusive situations. Your report could help save a child. prostasia.org/get-help/csam/

"The digital rights community has observed an uptick in censorship of LGBTQ+ websites as well as troubling attempts by several countries to pass explicitly anti-LGBTQ+ bills restricting freedom of expression and privacy" eff.org/deeplinks/2023/06/arou

The first month as #ExecutiveDirector of @ProstasiaInc is done. I’ve learned so much and have come to grips with my -quite massive- the ignorance of things outside my experience in #academia. The #nonprofit world is vastly different, but yet I find myself enjoying this work so much more. This is despite me spending most of my time just learning the how-tos of the job.

I am excited to see where this position will go and for what the future will bring us. Advice always welcome!

"We need to systematically change to ensure we are protecting the vulnerable among us, not attempting to call their efforts for protection ‘woke’ in a disgusting attempt to make bullying a good thing." prostasia.org/blog/fear-and-ab

"Some parents, especially those with younger kids, may incorporate technical solutions, such as parental control apps, though this should be paired with increased communication with children." prostasia.org/services/parents

"As children grow up, they eventually have to learn to navigate an increasingly complex online environment. From inappropriate content to cyberbullying to online predators, the potential for your child to encounter something harmful may seem endless." prostasia.org/services/parents

"Helping kids keep themselves safe extends to the classroom, where age-appropriate sexual education can help them identify and avoid potentially abusive situations." prostasia.org/services/parents

There is no place for bigotry in child protection. We stand with queer people, sex workers, and other marginalized groups fighting to keep kids safe.

“Unfortunately, this ruling expands the clergy privilege beyond what the legislature intended by allowing churches to conceal crimes against children” apnews.com/article/mormon-chur

"Groups like the LGBTQ+ community, the trans community, sex workers, and the consensual kink communities have not had a seat at the table to join in the conversation that affects them directly." prostasia.org/newsletter/?emai
