😍 From a different angle... what an immense cloud formation! I soon needed to run here ⛈️ already a strong outflow. Stay tuned for more ⚡

We are given a choice every day to seek to make our small world just better than yesterday. Tomorrow is not certain. I know there are #decisions I made yesterday I wouldn't make today and definitely ones I hope I won't have to make tomorrow. Be a better me, I tell myself. Be kinder. Be more imaginative. Teach. Share. But start by being at peace with yourself. Whatever your struggle, know there is no greater one than your own fear of accepting the now just as it is.
Today is #report review day. Lovely times.
Already seen many of the more popular people on the #birdsite having a bit of a go at the fedi platform. They want both to eat (free) cake and have it.
UK Law
The UK Govt wants to "sunset" laws that derive from EU legislation. Top of their hit list in Employment Law seems to be the Working Time Regulations 1998. You probably won't have heard them referred to in that way. The Govt prefers the "Working Time Directive" which is the piece of EU legislation that the Regulations implement. That is not accidental. They would rather you thought we were "ridding ourselves" of EU law than that they were considering removing UK employment rights. 1/n

6. They create a right to be paid for untaken days of accrued holiday on termination of employment.
These rights are all now very much taken for granted. I'm really not sure how many people realise that, as matters stand, unless the Govt decides to save them, they may simply vanish next year. / end
TIP OF THE DAY
Mastodon is not broken.
It's different, and much better. Mastodon by design promotes engagement and discourages instigating conflict. It's a dinner party, not a food fight. Most of what you might at first think is deficient is intentional. Before you rush to conclusions, try it for a while. Take part in this new community. Make new friends. Be kind. This is what social media should be. You will be amazed.
I am not a great fan of modern buildings, though not from the material improvements but from the aesthetic. Also though, I find it odd the insistence on particular very costly materials for #listedbuildings in the UK. It was very much confirmed as ridiculous when a friend did a development which was built in 2018 and replicated a Georgian era mansion house right down to intricate reproduction plasterwork detailing and oak panelling. Someone from a historical society visiting apparently commented how he was surprised how clever it was to integrate all of the home automation and underfloor heating and triple glazed window features into such an old structure with such sensitivity. He seemed quite surprised to learn the house had been there less than a year.
@engineeringdad @hasmis - continuing the theme of next generation of genius #engineers... Manufacturer of large lithium batteries: "must be mounted on a non combustible surface e.g. a wall". Me: "tbh if one of those was on fire I'd want to get it out of the building pretty darn quick". Eldest son: "well how about I make a frame to hold the batteries and mount that on a pallet then". #ProudDad 😍
OMG! This shelf cloud was a real monster, to capture such a beast of nature is true #adrenaline.

UK politics: Eustice
Eustice tells us he can now be more honest about the Australia deal and that, far from being the ‘good’ agreement he boasted about in the HoC, it’s a big pile of rubbish for the UK. And they call this democracy do they? Government abusing its power, lying to its citizens and signing deals that fail us, only admitting it when it’s far too late. Brexit Britain. Inadequate politicians screwing it all up and a largely complicit media pretending this is all fine. It’s so not fine.
Given that we are rapidly trying to build community here…
Can I ask you to do two key things:
1) Reshare other people’s posts - so your timeline is rich with other people’s posts for anyone browsing your content to discover.
2) Follow, follow, follow. That goes for following those posting good stuff - and also following those that follow you (as much as practically possible/sensible).
If you do these things, you’ll help us all network up at fast pace - and we all grow our voices & reach. ✌️
Being a great #engineer does not start with you being top at maths and science. It starts with you wanting something to be better in some way and then you finding an urge to seek out what that way is. I need enthusiastic and relentless seekers far more than I need equations.
Looking ahead to the future as a STEM ambassador the saddest thing is that unless we rid ourselves of the catastrophe that is Brexit I will have so little spare time now for education while I try to make a living. Our govt tanked the economy and killed my European business by making it impossible to compete on cost and movement of people.
Engineer, Dad, Inventor, Stoic, Philosopher, STEM Ambassador, Teacher, Student, Father, Occasional Folk Musician, and obviously a Knight of Camelot.
In life, we should all attempt to bond at least two things together on a regular basis using contact adhesive.
Do not be disheartened by life. Humans are a truly infuriating species. Be kind. Peace ✌️
