I'm also a little worried about Kate...
This is not what it was like when I was growing up.
I'm not sure it should be?

In response to customer confusion over the multitude of Copilot-branded products and features, on Wednesday Microsoft announced Copilot Copilot.
This new AI companion will help knowledge workers and consumers navigate the hundreds of other Copilots released by Microsoft. Copilot Copilot can draft prompts to other Copilots and summarize other Copilots' output.
In a disclaimer, Microsoft cautions users that Copilot Copilot may occasionally hallucinate other Copilots.
Copilot Copilot replaces the existing Copilot for Copilot product, but is not to be confused with Copilot for Copilot 365, which will still be offered to enterprise customers who are also, themselves, Copilots.
Mastodon has taken the strategic decision not to accept venture capital investments for growth, but rather restructure to a European non-profit organisation. 👏
@jensimmons not being able to run Safari on commodity CI e.g. Ghost Inspector because it's locked to MacOS, which is illegal to virtualise
I'm asserting now that Github has crossed the event horizon into Enterprise Software. Complex enough that any bug is your fault for not reading the right docs and flipping the right configuration flags. The experience will keep getting worse. People will use it because they have to not because they want to. It will become the MS Teams of scm-devops-hosting-stuff.
Hundreds of thousands of Computers won't be able to upgrade to Windows 11, but that shouldn't make them eWaste.
Kudos to the @kde team for this amazing initiative!
@recantha it's not just you! Is there a local user group maybe?
@recantha sheer bloody mindedness lol
@mcp others have already expressed these concerns, but here goes my 2 cents... Facebook doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. They've already squandered any goodwill they've been given.
Facebook's whole business model is:
- selling our personal info and "engagement" to marketers,
- who will use that asymmetrical power to manipulate us,
- with the end goal of making us consume more.
To do that, they'll:
- invade our spaces to gather more data on us.
- change their policies when it suits them.
- use their legal & financial leverage to get their way.
- spin it all as a beneficent embrace of open standards, community, and competition in the market.
The likely result will be:
- a shift in all our timelines towards Facebook curated content.
- an explosion in growth, which will errode these safe spaces–particularly LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC–that we've worked to establish.
- a foot in the door for corporations to turn the Fediverse into the same cesspool of misinformation and monetization that they've turned the rest of the internet into.
TL;DR: If we let Facebook play in our pool, they'll eventually shit in it and monetize our outrage.
For those who have not looked into the complexity of biological sex, here is an illustration from Scientific American that presents the main points.

@dangoodin @tyler @lauren @rmondello import and export to CSV doesn't need a fucking "alliance". It should be a basic feature of anything managing your logins.
@lauren @rmondello Not just that, but they're designed to be un-exportable.
If you use, say, Apple's implementation, but some day you decide you want to try Android, you need to log in to _every single website_ and generate a new passkey (and even that is challenging, because you'll need to login on an Apple device but then somehow create the passkey on an Android device; I'm not even sure how you'd do that---maybe backup codes or something).
When Lastpass decided to f*** over their customers, I just dumped a CSV of all my credentials and imported it into Bitwarden. By design, there is no way to do that with passkeys. That's why vendors are pushing them, and consumers are going to rue the day they took the bait.
Passkeys are probably the single most anti-competitive thing tech has come up with in the past decade.
