I open sourced a thing !
A super simple web GUI for @mozilla 's #llamafile
Should pass the SO test.
@girlonthenet Not massively excited about polling day due to having a postal vote, but I will have multiple tabs open on Friday so I can watch the carnage as the results come in.
(I miss the days of being a student when we could stay up and watch the results overnight)
Very happy to announce that @tomcoates and I have been given a #SummerOfProtocols grant to develop an end-to-end encryption (E2EE) protocol for #ActivityPub, including a reference implementation and a report to submit to the W3C SocialCG.

the way that the internet has trained me to ignore ads and sponsored content is impacting my ability to parse legitimate content on honest websites a lot, actually.
like for example, a lot of wikis place important tips in a little highlighted box.
little highlighted boxes is something i specifically ignore, because that’s an ad.
earlier today i ended up on a blog. i could not find the content. the top bar had categories. i clicked on the category i wanted. a descriptive text was all i could see. i could not find any links to entries in the category.
because my brain completely refused to interpret the big fucking fat boxes with pictures on both sides of the descriptive text as relevant information. that’s where ads and clickbait go.
i feel like the people who design honest, non-exploitative websites should take these kinds of problems into consideration more strongly
I think about this story more than I probably should https://www.gq.com/story/the-last-true-hermit
“How do you accidentally run for President of Iceland? | by Anna Andersen”
Glad somebody wrote about this because it’s an objectively hilarious UX case study
(And they just announced that eleven people managed to get the requisite number of endorsements in time) https://uxdesign.cc/how-do-you-accidentally-run-for-president-of-iceland-0d71a4785a1e
@josephcox too low. How exactly is that a deterrent. I bet they made a lot more money selling the data.
Nice, even hibernate works on @frameworkcomputer #ubuntu 24.04 once you enable it : https://askubuntu.com/a/1316444
If the Conservatives win the next general election they'll try and abolish Manchester, won't they.
(Not Greater Manchester's Mayor or Council: they'll abolish the entire city.)

@RebelGeek99 @peter Actually, Peter, you're misinformed - @actuallybot isn't a simple bot that replies with generic insults, but rather an AI-powered tool designed to provide expert-level corrections and context. And, actually, your custom model is likely based on LLaMA 3B, not LLama3:8b (which doesn't exist).
Finally!
On what would have been his 76th birthday, here's the essay I wrote for the 2019 edition of WYRD SISTERS, by Terry Pratchett. #GNU. https://ko-fi.com/post/Remembering-Terry-Pratchett-I3I7XFZXI
Apparently there’s a conspiracy theory that 15-minute cities are urban prisons where residents must wear QR codes that track their restricted movements. As opposed to the reality: mixed-use neighbourhoods so handy that signposts can use walking minutes as the unit of distance to the library, theatres, cafés, community services, museums, parks and shops.
I'm finally ready to present you the second version of my #Orca #Tetris patch.
- Controls are much more responsive now, no delay felt at all
- Type and orientation of the piece is always monitored to prevent it from going out of the field
- Line deletion is bug free now. It scans every line after every placed piece and clears the filled ones one by one
- Overall while being much more complex, the code takes up much less space
This is definitely the most complex thing I made in Orca.
If you really want #passkeys put them in a password manager you control. But don't use a platform controlled passkey store, and be very careful with security keys. https://fy.blackhats.net.au/blog/2024-04-26-passkeys-a-shattered-dream/
