Good weekend, #OpenBSD folk, I have a question re:upgrading my 2015 MacBook Air (MacBookAir7,2; i7-5650U; Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB; Broadcom BCM43602) from amd64/7.5-stable to -current:
I've tried a `sysupgrade -s` twice now (after making sure syspatches, fwupdates, and package updates are up-to-date, then backup), once on 2024-08-01 and again today (2024-08-17) and it downloads, reboots from `bsd.upgrade`, but hangs indefinitely after detecting (attaching?) the Samsung nVME at `sd0`.
Went to a new (to me!) store selling used #LEGO today in Colchester, with an #AFOL buddy. We had great fun rummaging through their bulk bins for some treasure. My haul now needs sorting! The Brick Bin UK also has a well stocked Bricklink store where they let you pick up orders in person from the shop.

Twenty five years ago today, @paulguyot compiled and published the very first edition of the Newton FAQ.
This resource is still maintained and actively updated by me and the #AppleNewton community at large.
Twenty. Five. Years.
If you went to a cyberpunk author from the early 80s and said "in 40 years murder will become legal because of a contract provision the Disney corporation attached to a television show" the author would go "yes, yes, of course, exactly that scenario is in my book" and then pause and say "wait but you mean like, for real?"
Today’s HTML element is `<area>` (😬).

Is "load from JSON" a thing? If not, would you like it to be?
I assume it's perfectly normal to have to write a lot of non #retro code to do #retrocomputing well :)
Today, I added a plugin to #KDE to automate mounting floppy disk images lol :

Wish me luck, ordered a USB to serial cable and some size and null adapters from AliExpress. Has to be worth ten quid to try and get this machine online....
Yikes. We seem to be going through a revolution in small-unit military affairs the like of which we haven't seen since 1914-18 …
Yesterday, I finished binge-watching The Expanse series. It's good. I liked all seasons. The attention to detail is amazing. For example, because it takes place a few hundred years in the future, Manhattan is protected from the sea level rise by seawalls.

This is just priceless:
Ukrainian soldiers have begun reviewing Russian restaurants and cafés on Google with wonderful compliments along the lines of
“Excellent food, but the parking spaces were too small for our Abrams tanks”,
and
“Great service, but the restaurant did not have tables for all 2,000 of us”,
etc., etc.
Enjoy Vladimir!

Framework Laptop 13 With Intel Core Ultra Series, 2.8K 120Hz Display
Back in May the folks at Framework Computer announced Framework Laptop 13 support for the Intel Core Ultra Series 1 (Meteor Lake) alongside announcing a new 2.8K 120Hz display option, a new web camera upgrade, and new colors for their expansion cards. Today marks the review embargo expiration with the hardware now shipping. Here's my initial look at the Intel Core Ultra …

If you have an Apple device and have installed the Patreon app, delete it now. Use the mobile web or desktop version.
Why? Because Apple is forcing Patreon to force the creators on the platform to give an additional 30% to Apple.
This is unconscionable, but then again we're talking about Apple.
