Hey video game developers:

I want to do a video game showcase program on our new cable network.

This might take the form of an esports style tournament or it might take the form of just having someone play the game for twenty minutes and talk about it.

I'd need to get clearance for the materials in the game so that we can broadcast it. Small but growing in person audience, plus medium sized and growing web audience.

Does this sound like your cup of tea? Reach out to have your game included! (Here is fine, or via email.)

Boosts appreciated.

Can we help them grow and reach for the stars?

@mikemathia My neighbours complained about me. They said, very politely: yes, I could have all the sex I want, naturally, that was my private affair, no pun intended, even every morning around 6.30am, really, they were very happy for me, but please – for the love of god – could I please stop moaning so loudly?

I didn’t wanted to admit that I was just putting my socks on.

What the fuck is SBAT, why did it break your dual-boot setup, it's not strictly my fault but if you need a scapegoat whatever: mjg59.dreamwidth.org/70348.htm

I've found a lot of conflicting and confusing reports about the #SecureBoot issue caused by a Microsoft update, so here's my relatively informed take about it.

Spoilers: this isn't an issue with GRUB, but with another less known bootloader called shim. GRUB can also be affected though. So let's talk about how the bootchain of a #Linux distro works and what happened to it. 🧵 1/11

Overall this is a huge mess. Secure Boot itself is not excessively complex - though it has a few moving parts some of which are not to my liking - but the combination of this complexity, Microsoft's de-facto monopoly and the inability to easily deploy user-provided keys made it a much bigger mess than it should have been. 11/11

This may be a really odd request, but anyone want to leave us for BT, Sky, Virgin, and a few others?

We are live on TOTSCO (One Touch Switching) tomorrow.

That or someone coming to us from any such. We'd like to talk about testing a live "switch" either way!

Basically, normal order form will offer "One Touch Switching" from some companies as of tomorrow, and all are welcome to try.

And we will be on list offered by other telcos to switch away from us, from tomorrow.

Yay!

Last Tuesday, loads of Linux users—many running packages released as early as this year—started reporting their devices were failing to boot. Instead, they received a cryptic error message that included the phrase: “Something has gone seriously wrong.”

The cause: an update Microsoft issued as part of its monthly patch release. It was intended to close a 2-year-old vulnerability in GRUB, an open source boot loader used to start up many Linux devices. The vulnerability, with a severity rating of 8.6 out of 10, made it possible for hackers to bypass secure boot. CVE-2022-2601 was discovered in 2022, but for unclear reasons, Microsoft patched it only last Tuesday.

Applied for PyPi organization on December 18th 2023. Still no movement. Anyone on Fedi get an Org on PyPi approved in the last 8 months?

It used to be if I searched for something like "how to solve a quadratic equation" you'd get a site like Purple Math as the first result because it had few or no ads and information written with care.

Now you get a dozen paywalled sites trying to sell you lesson plans stolen from teachers or worse? An AI parody of an answer. The feeling that you are either being tricked with AI or about to be swindled into a subscription makes the web an ugly place.

In France car parks with space for 80 cars or more are now required by law to be covered with solar panels.

- Parks between 80-400 spaces have 5 years to comply
- Parks with spaces of 400+ have 3 years to comply

This should be required everywhere!

Good weekend, #OpenBSD folk, I have a question re:upgrading my 2015 MacBook Air (MacBookAir7,2; i7-5650U; Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 500GB; Broadcom BCM43602) from amd64/7.5-stable to -current:

I've tried a `sysupgrade -s` twice now (after making sure syspatches, fwupdates, and package updates are up-to-date, then backup), once on 2024-08-01 and again today (2024-08-17) and it downloads, reboots from `bsd.upgrade`, but hangs indefinitely after detecting (attaching?) the Samsung nVME at `sd0`.
