@colorfiend
Lovely.
Your story makes me think of the sappy but catchy old song “my grandfather’s clock”.
@indianaclimate 50s, calm, and sunny is fabulous weather.
I had to (yet again) search for a new #weather app when apple took over DarkSky.
My new favorite is #windy which shows the winds beautifully.
Illegal miners flee Indigenous land. Brazil is sending in the police and army to wrest back control of the remote territory from invaders accused of sparking a humanitarian crisis in the Yanomami reservation https://u.afp.com/iWjv
I'd bet there are >100,000 people in refugee camps around the world who would love to take those jobs.
Or is Iowa deliberately trying to keep their kids from living through high school?
@kathhayhoe
That graph looks like dozens of others generated by serial denier John Christy.
I saw that too. It’s like writing a room is is 50 square feet by saying 50 [2]^ft.
(Rats, can’t make a superscript.)
Mining and climate again
@MatthewToad42@climatejustice.social @Snoro
Yes.
Also mining fossil fuels is unidirectional: dig —> burn —> pollution/waste/CO2
Minerals can, in principle, be infinitely reused: dig —> use —> reuse —> reuse
Of course, lots of work is still needed to do this efficiently, but elements stay elements. If they can be extracted from rocks and dirt, they can be extracted from a battery.

Similar rules apply in small town #michigan
8. Everyone you talk *to* is related to, friends with, or an enemy of, everyone you talk *about*.
Thanks to worthy volunteer @kenrice we've updated our Escalator Earth temperature graph to include Berkeley Earth thru 2022.
The Escalator was created by dedicated volunteer Dana Nuccitelli, dates back to 2011 and is the earliest model of a communication mode we're now terming AIV, "Autonomous Information Vehicles," presentations that operate on their own to engage people, can easily be shared, slip across social boundaries.
@revkin
Thanks for that!
I often run https://earth.nullschool.net/ on my desktop but I didn’t know there was an app with that data.
@revkin
Mine are suddenly growing too. How do they know it’s spring deep in a dark cold basement in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula?
I live on the shores of #LakeSuperior on the #Keweenaw Peninsula in the #UpperPeninsula of #Michigan. This region is within Ojibwe Gichigami (“Ojibwa’s Great Sea”) homelands and ceded-territory, established by the TREATY OF 1842
I'm a professor of #environmental #chemistry with an interest in everything related to #climate, including molecular to global aspects of the carbon cycle, energy and social transitions, new and old technologies for sustainability, forests and biodiversity, local to international climate policy, and the systems thinking approaches we need to make progress.
Too much of a news and politics junkie than is healthy.
I share my homestead with a partner, a dog, several felines, two donkeys, plants, and occasional uninvited critters.
