I'm a professor of #environmental #chemistry with an interest in everything related to #climate, including molecular to global aspects of the carbon cycle, energy and social transitions, new and old technologies for sustainability, forests and biodiversity, local to international climate policy, and the systems thinking approaches we need to make progress.

I share my homestead with a partner, a dog, several felines, two donkeys, plants, and occasional uninvited critters.

Happily we don’t typically get those massive buildups.
If fact, up on the bank here we prefer having shore ice to protect against erosion.
We still have some on the beach but it’s going fast.

In April 1938, Guy Callendar published his seminal paper showing that Earth’s land areas had warmed over the previous 50 years.
He also suggested that man-made CO₂ emissions had caused around half of the observed warming.

The #Michigan Department of #Environment, Great Lakes, and #Energy is encouraging local governments to sign up for free technical assistance to bring #solarpower to their communities. SolSmart is a no-cost program to help local governments by training staff, offering guidance on #solar permits, and technical advice. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The same year trains in the EU traveled 4.5 billion train-kilometers and experienced 73 derailments.
Japan: 2 billion train-kilometers and 9 derailments.
