Explains one perspective on the difference between being a technical leader and a people leader. I agree with most of this and am sharing it as a way of remembering this as a reference. Shared with me by a buddy (c0c0).

I always remember that Advent of Code is happening about halfway through December, and feel like it's not worth trying at that point. So, here's your reminder:

Starts at midnight, EST. About four hours from when this was posted.

25 days of programming puzzles, ranging from very easy to pretty hard. One puzzle a day until Christmas. It's a good opportunity to learn a new language, or polish your skills in one you already know. I'll be doing the puzzles in #rustlang this year.

Someone asked me to explain the whole supply chain, shell company, pager scenario to them in simple, anyone terms. I said in a nutshell, the coyote and rest of us watching learned that the roadrunner owned the Acme company.

@albnelson I couldn't match yours! Nice job.

Hidden amidst the op-eds
was one that warned
“Another pandemic looms.
Guess what?
We’re still not ready.”
but this is all wrong
look around and you will see
how much we have learned
from the current pandemic
we are ready
for another pandemic
yes, we are ready
to ignore it too.

Hello fediverse - in my professional life, I've refocused on work with the helping professions. I'm calling it "Helping the Helpers." My aim is to center work helping people like social workers, nurses, and teachers realize ambitious projects that take them outside their comfort zones.

If you know anyone you think could benefit from what I'm doing, could you pass my site on to them? I'm eager to get to know folks even if they may not be paying clients, because these professions are made of networks, and plenty of my big projects have started in unlikely places. These are my people, and if they're your people too, please let me know!

So this is cool: On the ground at DEF CON, EFF represented security researcher Dennis Giese who received a cease-and-desist letter from digital lock maker Digilock about a presentation that Giese was going to give the next day. EFF attorney and current Special Counsel to EFF, Kurt Opsahl got the cease-and-desist lifted so that Giese could give his talk.

EFF loves many things, but here are a few we're thinking about right now:
🐈‍⬛ Las Vegas hacker conferences
💻 Tinkerers and security researchers
🦸 EFF members!

was awesome. LV Convention Center was awesome. This was the next evolution of and it seems like the right one. Looking forward to being a bit better prepared with hotel location next year.

I am hugely appreciative of bSidesLV for requiring masks in the peak of a summer covid epidemic that everyone else seems to be ignoring. I will probably catch it in Vegas and am resigned to that, but hopefully, I can avoid it until after DEF CON is over.

We literally got away with putting an actual POOL on the ROOF at @defcon for the #HackerCoolingContraption Challenge. This is truly the kind of magical community where if you can dream it, you can do it.

Our fundraiser has a round two!

If you didn't get your BSides Las Vegas 2024 Spooky Haunted Shirt or Hoodie, you have another chance!
