My favourite study of "how often does a family with small children get a respiratory infection?" is this one, from the USA:
doi.org/10.1093/cid/civ486
Children <5y have one of 16 common respiratory viruses detected in a nasal swab 50% of the year!

A real pleasure to visit @ClionaOfarrelly’s lab to examine @FGiangrazi’s thesis.

From now on, I will insist that all PhD vivas end with the examiner sitting on Oscar Wilde!

What transporter is responsible for uptake of our recently discovered immunosuppressive metabolite (MNA)? And can we target it? Jessica, one of our newest graduate students is working on it! -SM1

Yesterday I circulated a plot I made about ERC grantees.

I made a horrible mistake: I mistook Ireland (IE) for Israel (IL). The data concern Israel and **not Ireland**.

Also, data covers 12 largest ERC host countries.

I apologize. Here is the correct plot.

RT @PaoloCrosetto
Does your (EU) country attract or lose top researchers?

AT, CH attract a lot.

FR, DE, BE, ES are open places: as many leave as arrive.

IE is a closed system.

Italy, there is something very wrong: *very* few come, many go.

Plot made with @ERC_Research data.

Really nice paper and great reminder that in vitro metabolism is not the same as in vivo metabolism. needs to move in vivo. Try to look at in vitro or direct ex vivo glutamine uptake biorxiv.org/ 😉
