@arteteco Hey! not too much. Still bringing our servers (like peertube) online. What brings you here?
@freemo browsing through instances to find my place, this scholars/science focused one looks promising. I'll follow how it grows with interest, are you the admin?
@arteteco Yup, I sure am. Professional programmer and comfortable sys admining. Though I hired a full time guy to sys admin as well for qoto.org.
With that said I take suggestions on bots, or other federated services you'd like to see offered. If I like the suggestions I am happy to bring it up within a few days. Currently working on a PeerTube server and trying to figure out what other services make sense.
Any ideas?
@arteteco Questions and support are more than welcome as well.
I plan to pay for qoto out of my own pocket for now, I have more than enough money to support it. With that said if it grows to the point where it costs more than a few 100 a month to maintain I will likely just have my company sponsor it directly (it is focused on decentralized open-source software).
The reason I chose mastadon was it seems to have the best federation support of all the platforms. As far as I know pleorma doesnt really do federated timelines across the whole fediverse. Another very important reason is that mastodon supports ActivityPub and OStatus while Pleorma just supports OStatus. So basically Mastodon can federate with many services that Pleorma can not.
@arteteco I only took a quick look and didnt see a federated timeline. Perhaps the instance I tested hid it?
@Deeploria @arteteco Thanks for the info.
@freemo well, thanks for your reply and your kindness in keeping this instance up and running then!
Just as a note, pleroma supports both ostatus and activitypub (internally too, as it uses for the instance chat), and does federated timelines just as good, AFAIK.
