@freemo Naw, no healthcare is a bitch. I mean, my glasses are subsidized by the government of my country. Because I need them. To see and function.

@Surasanji the healthcare companies in your country still make a profit, even more so since everyone is forced to buy it.. So I'd still say it counts as capitalism, unless you happen to live in a communist country.

@freemo To a certain point, sure. But what they can do and can't do is heavily regulated. Israeli's healthcare system is partially privatized and not 100% socialist. So the healthcare providers do, undoubtedly, make some profit but not as much as compared to any US Health Insurance Company (And I do mean per capita)

@Surasanji a regulated capitalism is still a capitalism.

@freemo Indeed it is, but there are heavy enough socialist notes in this particular form of health care that I'm not sure you could safely call it "Capitalism".

Most of the money these companies in Israel make comes from the Government specifically, paid for by taxes from individuals and businesses.

@Surasanji socialism isnt mutually exclusive to capitalism. A socialism is just one form of capitalism. So while i would still call it capitalism i do agree that isnt as descriptive as saying it is a "socialist capitalism".. but we are in the semantic weeds at this point. We mostly agree I think.

@LWFlouisa @freemo I enjoy conversations with a hint of debate. :) It is a good way to get to know people.

@Surasanji @freemo

True, I always hesitate as I'm kind of green and purple stripes, rather than purely a green or purple.
@freemo @Surasanji I think both the left and right libertarian have a lot of good points.
@freemo @Surasanji Working on a novel that goes into what I mean: I've always been more that focuses on rehab over punishment.

It's a magical realism about a true crime case about a girl who murdered her family, and what makes someone do the things they do. But spans 200 or so years.
@freemo @Surasanji Reading her life story in real life left a lot of ... unresolved emotional issues though.

@LWFlouisa @freemo I used to be a corrections officer in the US, and specifically in South Carolina. It was a very interesting job.

The focus is most certainly not on rehabilitation, and it hasn't been for a very long time. A *very* long time. Most of the inmates I met in prison certainly belonged there, some were edge cases.

The old hippie who got caught selling LSD at a Grateful Dead Concert in the 80s certainly didn't deserve 30 years in prison, but that is what he got.

I could go into it at length, but it would take time. My time as a CO changed me, even if it wasn't for very long.

@Surasanji I see a lot of my ... cousin in this person from 1830, Strasbourg I think it was.

What's not clear: I wouldn't think France would be prone to crime, and yet there is so many clues to the contrary about Alsace France.
@freemo @Surasanji In criminal justice, I'd like to think I'm green, but you'll find ome purple people agree sometimes.

Clearly the issue is a complex mess.
