@Tayo@fosstodon.org There was no "botched Iowa Thing" ... Bernie sanders supports just cant accept that he is a shitty politician with shitty policies no one likes. So when he looses they just assume things must be rigged.
As someone who used to be a Bernie Supporter in the last election I can say, no a **lot** of his old supporters would never support him again after the last election when he put party over morality. In fact not only do a lot not support him he drove a suprisingly large number (over 12%) to vote for trump in the last election when after supporting Hillary.
With that said I agree, Pete doesnt really indicate he is going to win, afterall it was just one state. But man, lets hope he does, he is the only democratic runner right now who hasnt destroyed their own reputation.
@valence Bernie has explicitly declared himself a democrat, any claim he is not a democrat would be a straight up lie. There is an option to be an independent (as some congress members are neither). Bernie isnt one of them though.
Did Pete at any point publicly endorse hillary if so you might have a point
@valence Where exactly is the inconsistency. As I stated if you can show Pete has ever shown vocal support for Hillary I'll happily withdraw my support for him.
@freemo you’re thinking about this in too binary a way. His silence on Hillary is probably very intentional. He has more donations from Wall Street than anyone. I’m just saying who’s more likely to be friends with Hillary today, Bernie or Pete? But I’ll leave you to whatever purity tests you wanna have.
@valence I would imagine his silence is intentional, it should be. Bernie should have done the same.
I have no issue with someone taking money from wallstreet or any other source so long as they havent demonstrated corruption as a result of taking that money. So far I have heard no arguments along those lines on Pete.
I also dont particularly care who is "friends" with her. I care about what a person actually does and the effects those actions take. a person who is secretly not friends with hillary but publicly supports her is FAR more damning than someone who is secretly friends with her and publicly silent. That public statement had real negative effects and almost allowed hillary to win.
@valence He has literally been a democrat since for ever. At no point in his career has he ever not been a democrat, even long before he had the presidency in sight.
And yea, supporting an evil person no matter what his excuse is not acceptable. Thankfully hillary didnt win. Trump is aweful but at least he is no Hillary.
@freemo Bernard Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States Senator from Vermont since 2007. The U.S. Representative for the state's at-large congressional district from 1991 to 2007, he is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history and a member of the Democratic caucus. He ran unsuccessfully for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president and is running again in 2020.
@valence I stand corrected, but that is confusing since he literally ran as a democrat every time he was up for election to the senate so not sure how that makes him an independent.
@freemo well, no. He ran as an independent. Maybe you’re thinking of the fact that he “caucuses” with the Democrats?
@freemo Bernie has always been an independent in Congress. He is running as a Democrat because he is actually trying to win, and he supported Hillary, not because he likes her, but because he thinks she’s better than Trump. You seem to have a problem with establishment Dems in general and you’re likely going to be disappointed if you think Pete’s playing a different game. He’s been groomed for this by the establishment. Obama touted him a few years back as one to look out for.
