Man it always amazes me how little engineers really understand when you go beyond the points they were taught to parrot... Engineers need better science and theory background in almost every field...

@freemo i am not engineer nor scientific so i am one or two upper floor in this building of the reallity. Hehehe! Work, work hard for us damm engineer and lower level scientifics! Hahaha!
Pretty crazy thoug on how our society is structured, but in fact all that army of engineers and scientifics work for all the rest of us, lazy consumers... πŸ€ͺ

@freemo I had an engineering lecturer who was a semi conductor physicist. He thought the engineering mindset was short sighted.

I don't know if we were taught to parrot anything. Its more like we were taught how solve for circuit parameters using linear algebra, DEs and hand drawn circuit diagrams. Its true we didn't spend much time understanding the physics of semi conductors, doping and depletion etc.

I also believe the statements everyone should be less ignorant about everything, and I should be less ignorant about all of the things too.

@Russelli While knowing the theory of semiconductors would be good I'm not sure its entierly the best example of what I mean. It doesnt have a huge application on understanding novel circuits.

I think a better example might be how many EEs dont fully understand maxwell equations. I tried to explain how all electric circuits have a magnetic circuit dual to a room full of experienced electrical engineers. None of them could even understand the simple concept that magnets store energy in their magnetic field that under special circumstances can be extracted that is in many ways no different than a discharging inductor or even an inductors dual, a battery/capacitor.

They were all taught you cant extract energy from a magnet, and while that is true under normal circumstances there are special circumstances where you can, and because the idea of "you cant extract energy from a permanent magnet" was drilled into their head they couldn't accept the very obvious truth that this was incorrect under certain conditions.
