I cant help but feel it would cost almost as much to build this fake as it would to just build the capacitor the correct way....

Depends on if you already have an oversupply of the smaller one.
@everlastingrocks I suppose so.. but its not like these things have a shelf life, even if you had an over supply im not sure there would be much to gain long term from this tactic
