@iankenway why are you (or more specifically the article) using the term "shut out".. the article claims they dropped out and states it doesnt know why.. being shut out would imply they are being stopped by an external force and I see nothing to support that.
Dont get me wrong its a concerning problem and im all for finding the root of the problem and addressing it. Whatever the reason it seems worth trying to fix, so dont get my comments wrong. But "shut out" feels awfully loaded to me and without basis based on what im reading in the article.
This is a problem I have with so many article, they try to sell an agenda rather than report the news. A more appropriate title would be "Blacks students have twice the dropout rate of whites"
@freemo This is a completely fair criticism of the article. I suspect that what lies behind the greater dropout rate for black students involves a number of factors but these aren't listed, let alone explored in the piece.
