@trinsec The republicans dont really "figure" much out.. but I will give them this, they dont tend to crash whole economies at aleast. Every major depression in my life time has been the direct cause of democrats from the mortgage crisis to the .com bubble burst.

@freemo Kind of depends on how you look at it. The current economic malaise is usually the result of a decision made years before. So if the Democrats are now in charge, and the economy seems to crash, who is to say it's not because of what the Republicans decided a few years ago?

Mind you, I don't know the exact details, but I just had to thought of that because that often gets overlooked.

@trinsec because we can directly see the even that leads to it... Mortgage crisis for example, it was very specifically the result of that democrat sponsored law that allowed low income high-risk families get mortgages they dont qualify for. Then the result of that is everyone who got mortgages they couldnt afford lost their home and the foreclosures tanked the economy.

the democrats always try to use that excuse though, but when you can tie the triggering even back to democrat decisions its a weak excuse.

@freemo That's indeed a bad practice, giving mortgages to people who can't afford it. When I was still MUSHing, over a decade ago, I chatted a lot with Americans who immediately experienced the consequences of this crisis. Some managed to get a house for dirt cheap that way. Funky.

So the democrats try to do this again? Jeez. I think they should put more effort in affordable social housing for that target group.

@trinsec Exactly, im all for helping the poor but simply lowering requirements or just giving free money is always going to fail. There are better way.. give them the means, itself.

@pthenq1 Wow, you really dont follow history much huh? Mortgage crisis was Obama,and he handled it horribly when he had to clean up his own mess. .com bubble was Bill Clinton who created the bubble.. I am sure you have some excuse how somehow it was a republicans fault in some convoluted way... but its quite obvious what the chain of events were in the two biggest depressions we saw. Very few people would deny it.

@pthenq1 Rrrrriiigggghhhtttt cause it wasnt Bill Clinton who amended the CRA to ensure demographics with high poverty got loans for homes, the exact group that wound up defaulting and crashing the mortgage market. At that point mortgage companies were literally legally required to give loans to people who couldnt afford it... but yea lets find a way to blame republicans instead. and yes countless other missteps by the dems to try to get poor people in homes they couldnt pay for.
