wait... I just noticed a subscribe button on someone's profile in addition to the "follow" and now I'm confused. What's the difference?

Follow

@worldsendless subscribe brings their public posts into your home timeline. It does not notifying them that you are following, nor will it let you view follower only posts or other non-public posts. It is used if you want to follow someone without giving away you are following (useful for bad actors you want to keep an eye on such as doxers)

@worldsendless also apparently you didnt read out rules and about page which covers this: qoto.org/about/more

@freemo You are right -- I hadn't read that. I still haven't read all of it; that's a lot of text. But good info, that. qoto seems to be a very good place

@worldsendless Glad you are enjoying it. Reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat sometime. We have a chat server and room too if youre interested, it federates with the whole matrix network
