the great qwerty vs dvorak
:blobcatglare: its faster
:blobfoxglare: only by 2-5% on average i ran a study where i compared the worlds fastest qwerty typists against some high school students who used it for a couple days.

:blobbee: wow my RSI is gone all i had to do was move the keys around

@icedquinn every world record holder has been Dvorak, it is faster. The reason in practice it often isnt faster for individuals is because they usually cant or dont use Dvorak everywhere. If you use two different layouts interchangeably you tend to be slower than if you pick just one.

So in practice for most people switching to Dvorak will likely slow you down unless you really commit to it everywhere.

@freemo i don't think they've ever bothered to do formal studies on the RSI reduction. "hey would you like to not have broken hands" probably would have been a better sales pitch.

then again didn't work for ergo chairs so what do i know :cirno_sip:

@icedquinn I have always wanted to go dvorak. But I never commited. My opinions are based mostly on limited studies from many decades ago I can barely recall. So I dunno how good my sources or memory are on this. But thats what I recall the research saying

@freemo yea its faster which is why the shitpost said it was :blobcatcoy: but the copes are that it's not fast "enough" that anyone wants to deal with retraining.

typically people do it because their wrists are shot and it's either that or not type. then afterwards they're like :uwu_cirno: i wish i did this sooner

@icedquinn yea i wasnt disagreeing. Contrary to popular belief I do occasionally agree with people too :)
