@PawelK Well its not that its a "hint" to sex, it may provide that function. But rather its part and sometimes contrary to the genetics. A person can have male gender (appear outwardly male) yet have female sex, and vice versa. Sometimes this occurs naturally, and in humans sometimes it is dont by choice.
