FYI, my mastodon world is feeling a bit too... linux-y? in terms of demographics, so I'm trying to boost #introduction posts of women/BIPOC/LGBT tooters I've found so far. Feel free to mute me for today if it gets annoying, but please reach out if you want to connect!

@vanessabrown

I could be wrong...
But it sounds like you're attributing Linux as a polarization of what your looking for. Which in actuality would not be mutually exclusive, if I actually understand your goals correctly.

If you're looking for women/LGBTQ on Fedi... They're there, you just need to keep federating.

@lucifargundam I was waiting for the first linux-involved person to call me out on that 😂 obviously was a bit facetious but in my experience as a woman in stem doing computational research not totally off

@vanessabrown
is a stem-focused server, but I don't recall @freemo collecting demographics on it's members...
There _are_ other servers focused on LGBTQ and other topics...

@lucifargundam

I never collected explicit demographics, but as a STEM server we have a much higher population of LGBTQ and women than I would have expected (as sadly STEM can sometimes be male dominated, though im happy to see that changing).

While i cant speak to why there has been an influx of women I can say our large LGBTQ community here does have explicit origins. In the early days there was a bit of a blocking war going on. Long story short LGBTQ were indirectly caught in the cross hairs and QOTO was the only one who looked out for their interests explicitly. This caused a huge LGBTQ exodus over to the QOTO server that remains to this day.
