@gpowerf QOTO is very much the exception IMO. We have a fairly exceptional history of civility and inclusion you just wont find on other servers or networks.
@freemo it took me a long time to choose a server! I eventually gravitated to qoto because I liked the description of it, it sounded like a place that respected free speech and was populated by people who largely wanted to do good and discuss their academic work.
Seems like I made a good choice!
@gpowerf Its been a pleasure having you here too. I amjust happy i created a corner of the internet with some sanity and civility.
@freemo @gpowerf I have seen other servers and tho there can be aggression, it is surely not to the extent of Facebook, Twitter or Reddit where people hunt down your history and shame you and then decide to get you fired for an opinion they disliked.
But I have had bickerings on here with certain people, it's just a matter of perspective and experience.
@SypherNight @freemo there are many variables. One thing I didn't consider is that I've been mega-block-happy here :( maybe due to bird site trauma, but I blocked at the first sniff of trouble.
I'd say twitter is worse than the fediverse in terms of hostility for sure, but facebook less so, even though it is very much present there.
Keep in mind at 31K followers my expiernce here may be skewed by the fact that im so well known.
@freemo @SypherNight yeah, you are a bigger target than me. Here I'm just a guy talking about games.
@freemo @gpowerf That would surely expose you to a whole lot more of it, but as i said it's perspective, the way we interact is also different with things. As @gpowerf said there are many variables to take into account.
I think one thing QOTO has going for it, in favor of making things less hostile is that we have more than 1k words to express our opinions, so we are in a much better and more complex environment which allows for a better expression of our beliefs.
@freemo maybe my perspective is skewed because I've only ever existed in qoto.
