@feld Nothing, they just have different bands of color in them which I will wear to match my color (tie/shirt) for the day.

I only have a few rings that mean anything:

Freemason ring - self explanatory

Legend of Zelda ring - self explanatory

Silver ring - Occult symbolism for water/moon

Hemetite ring - Occult symbolism for earth

Gold ring - Occult Symbolism for fire/sun

PELE ring - Supposed ring of solomon according to Enochian tradition, gives one control over demons

A few of the rings above have inner band engravings to symbolize their various nature, usually using a loagath.

@freemo @feld Not to forget the tungsten... was that one maybe cut from some sphere... that contained a snail?

Brb gotta check on someone...

@admitsWrongIfProven

not sure what you mean... but no, the tungsten is just a plainmetal with no particular meaning.

Being the most dense metal you think it might be a better representation of the Occult concept of the Earth element than hemetite. But I guess tungsten wasnt well known in antiquity so it never really was associated as such.

I like it because it has a lovely silver-like luster. So it looks nice as a plain band white metal. Plus being one of the hardest metals it keeps its luster pretty much indefinitely. Probably one of my favorite white-metals on looks short of platinum.

@feld

@freemo Oh sorry, the joke got lost...

There's a question about "If you could be immortal and gain considerable wealth, but if you touched this indestructible snail you would die, would you do it?", and an answer i read was about enclosing the snail in a tungsten sphere... it just struck me when i saw how that ring was made out of tungsten and how a ring could be a cut from a hollow sphere.

@admitsWrongIfProven ahh the old snail story.

The problem is how do you know if the snail you put in the sphere is the one that can kill you? He wasnt indestructible when i heard about it so you cant test it by trying to kill it. You can capture a million snails and it still might not be the one :)

@freemo I think the moral of the story is that people take this "immortality" and over invest in security. Stuff like "and then, i accelerate to light speed and get away from it, never to be caught".

The initial setup was with the snail clearly pointed out.

@admitsWrongIfProven If the snail is clearly identified or has a way to identify it then it becomes rather easy... encase it in a solid metal container, sent it off in a rocket to the sun. Sure it may not die in the core of the sun, but it will be trapped there forever, so good enough.

@freemo If you're immortal, the lifetime of a star becomes a relevant timespan...

@admitsWrongIfProven Well if you want to consider that sort of time span then just send it in a rocket to the nearest blackhole... will spend most of its time in space and cant hurt you and eventually goes away forever.

Now the real question is how does the physics work out if you send an indestructible snail into the heart of the one thing that can destroy anything at a quantum level :)

@freemo I'd say the real moral may be that holding on to infinite things might screw up our sense of enjoying life... and this is not a "gotcha", i genuinely meant what i said in the last post, and i was wrong :-)

@freemo @feld did you buy them purely for color matching or do they hold any personal meaning and value to you beyond color?

@twotwenty

The colored ones have no meaning to me other than color matching.

Many of my other rings have some symbolism to them, some are for fun. The ones that have meaning are the plain metal ones mostly. I do have some engraved with sacred symbols (like my PELE ring), but I dont usually wear those day to day as I beleive it is important to not advertise ones spirtual views, and in fact go out of your way to keep it to yourself in most cases.

@feld

@twotwenty

To give you an idea my silver rings (not shown) have an engraving on the inside of the band that say "Graa" which is Enochian for "Moon". The gold one I have is inscribed with "Ror" which is the Enochian word for "Sun". Sadly they use english script but true Enochian would use the Enochian script.
