As someone who almost always open-carries guns I must say, the one thing I dont like is how certain people assume your a republican or pro-trump when they see it. Today I had an experience with a tow truck driver who was overtly racist the whole ride home and I suspect its because he saw my gun and made some assumptions.

Pro-guns is probably the only topic where I align with the right at all really.

@freemo

You sure? You also support free speech.

@realcaseyrollins

Free speech is a bit hairy.. In terms of legal free speech both sides seem to more or less support it.

When it comes to private speech people dont like and it is still legal to censor it without violating free speech then both sides seem to be ok censoring it when it aligns with their views.

I meant he right is also the side that bans books for example.

@freemo

Not really, no. Where are all the pro free speech left wingers? I more often hear them calling right wingers stochastic terrorists for what they have to say than defending their first amendment rights.

I meant he right is also the side that bans books for example.

If you’re talking about the child porn in schools…that’s not exactly a bad thing, is it? I’m not even seeing right wingers saying that those books should be illegal, just that they don’t want their kids to see them in school libraries or to be part of their school curriculum.

@realcaseyrollins

Can you give an example of a left-wing person suggesting we abolish the 1st amendment. I cant say ive ever heard someone on the left just straightup be against the legal definition of free speech.

Only way i can see the left being anti-free speech tends to revolve aroudn their "pro-ban anyone who disagrees with me from scoial media" mentality. But that has little relationship to the legal definition of free speech which offers no protection in a private setting.

Regardless if you agree with them on that my point is, their attacks tend to be against private freedom of speech, not the legal definition around public speech,.

@realcaseyrollins

Oh and to respond to your comment about "child porn" ... well no, some of the calls to ban books I can understand, but other books are quite mild and dont really fit that description.

Im not neccesarly saying either the left or the right's desire to censor certain speech is right or wrong. But my point is, both sides seem to want to censor the sort of private speech they dont like, and both sides seem to recognize and uphold legal free speech.

@freemo These are good points I suppose…the anti free speech arguments I’ve heard from the left are that “hate speech isn’t free speech” and “hate speech is violence”, which frames “hate speech” as something that isn’t or should not be protected by the #1A from what I can tell.

@realcaseyrollins

Yea ill admit the right is a bit stronger on free speech than the left. Hate speech is a good point in that regard. I will admit the left is more likely to have a person suggest hate speech should be a crime, and that is less likely a statement to come from someone on the right.

That said I suspect a small minority of the left think people should be criminally guilty for speech alone that is not a direct call to violence.

That said, "We should kill all black people" is legit call to violence (and hate speech).. So there is a bit of a cross over. But yea non-calls to violence that are hate speech is the only place I think you might get a few liberals.

@freemo @realcaseyrollins the right doesn't support free speech. they hide behind it because they are being censored by technocrats, and it sounds better than openly trying to put the church back in control of the state.
@freemo @icedquinn @freemo
The idea that the majority of the right likes the church is kinda funny.

There are a ton of right wingers who would censor folks on the left if they could though, like #ElonMusk.

@realcaseyrollins

Wait, huh. 85% of conservatives are Christian... why is it funny that the majority of the right likes the church?

@icedquinn

@freemo @realcaseyrollins i can't really spot much of a difference between how they act and someone just saying lets subjugate the country to the catholic church. that's where i get it from.
@freemo @realcaseyrollins oddly i think lincoln complained about this too in his day. something about jesuit agents being an eternal pain in the ass.

@icedquinn

I was responding to caseys claim that conservatives liking the church was laughable... not sure what he meant by that with 85% conservative support for "the church".

@realcaseyrollins

@freemo @realcaseyrollins some of them are mad at the churches accusing them of being compromised basically.

@icedquinn

Oh so by the church he meant specifically the organized part of the religion separately... yea he might of meant that.

@realcaseyrollins

@icedquinn

I'd kinda be curious to see what percentage of conservatives are christian vs christians who support their denominations church.
