You cannot move your Mastodon / Fediverse account...
@FediThing For people under assumptions that you can move Mastodon accounts...
NO YOU CAN'T MOVE YOUR POST!
(which is most of your acc!)
Please boost this FOR CLARITY!!!
I don't want forget to let you know you CANNOT MOVE YOUR FEDIVERSE POSTS ...OR EVEN EXTRACT THEM ELSEWHERE EASILY...
So the page I have suggestion for CHANGING or anywhere else mentions is this page to start:
https://fedi.tips/which-server-should-i-join-how-do-i-find-out-more-about-a-server/
You write there you can move account (A clear YES is there and then NO (or "posts remain on your old server" which is a NO further down... so you can't move POSTS... that is clearly not moving your account, in fact MOST OF IT!
The YES first is MISLEADING as POST are the bulk of almost *everything* and you CANNOT move posts or see post other than KEEP ACCOUNT... If you hate your account of want to leave, you can't!
so it's good not to say "NOT EVERYTHING" or similar (not yes)...
This is coming from JUST NOW finding out I can't do anything with my posts but output to archive.... which I can't import anywhere! ! !
If I quite Mastodon / Fediverse I can't see my posts !
II can't delete and move Mastodon to another Mastodon apart from followers and lists...
BIG / IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE...
This is all true, only your followers move if you move accounts.
That said I will say the fedipage server I wrote (a fediverse single user instance for static pages and blogs) would be able to import your posts with fairly minimal coding effort if you wanted to make it happen.
@freemo @FediThing Oooh, I don't have coding skills but that does sound interesting,
Would it look fairly similar? When you say "static pages" and blogs do you mean just that and maybe less ability like no search also?
I mean this page: https://jeffreyfreeman.me
Which is also viewable from the fediverse here: @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
Yep looks good as place to output online. But could this be offline output and not online webspace (or maybe both offline as backup and online). Like in emergency could you view things?
So rather than output online, to offline?
I like the section 'microblog' on projects page https://jeffreyfreeman.me/projects/ as basically the answer offline.
Someone already showed you the command to turn it into plain text for offline use.
It is a tool that can be used to manipulate json.
Your files are just json, so any tool that edits, views, or works with json can be used.
Not much **I** can do to take it any further.. its json, just use whatever tool you want to view it. Since you dont want to view it in plain text it really depends on how you want to view or work with it. We all provided a few options for you, but like i said anything with JSON works.
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me The way I see is this in asking / just in short to see where / if there is a big problem:
You have skills and answers already. You know what you're doing with files / process. You've done it before.
I would like that to happen in similar way for my file and maybe you could process it to have it output without much trouble apart from motivation / wanting me to learn parts.
Imagine asking granny to DIY :)
I'm maybe missing the part of learning it all and coming from minimal / backward position, but apart from that you could do it faster / easier / whenever if you feel if you saw it as beneficial.
Is that approximately true / correct?
ITs not about if i can do it for you.. i mean sure i can run that jq command for example on your file and give you a plain text.
You havent been clear about what it is, exactly, you want done with the file that isnt simply plain text. Since I dont know what exactly your trying to do with it that you could want me to do I cant even offer to help.
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
Ok a quick reset to make it clear:
The "I want / what I would like"
I now see in form of your page output (see pictured) similarly from posts.
Preferably offline output but even online like you have (which I don't have resources or ability for) means I'd be able to take my posts and work offline as media and text in easy / basic way to view.
Anything unclear about that or picture below (but for my posts) ?
So you basically want non-plain text... a dump that includes the images and text formatting, unlike plain text where that is not displayed?
Like a PDF export of your posts with formatting and images?
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
Yes. With note that experience s with PDF say it would be 2nd best as a source since line breaks or copying pasting from seemed hazardous and actually deliberately messing with content when actually pasted so the more basic HTML the better to avoid that, but yes that is the basic idea.
Ok well I understand the ask... short of coding it up I really cant think of an easy way to get a pdf.
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
Ok, well, if it's not possible right now to put my posts through similar process like you have for posts on your website or similar then thanks for considering...!
⭐ I can at least see and show others my desired output and point them to that - and that's miles better than just an organised text output version. ⭐
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me
Just to adding that you mentioned PDF and not I, so the output you have or basic HTML/XML etc I think would anyway be a precursor to any other format, of which PDF I don't need on top.
As long as it looks / scrolls like your microblog section that's actually it.
yea i dont know of any easy way to make the output graphical (inline images and formatting).
@freemo @freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me I'll not take more of your time.
Upto you if you want to take it further for me / others... good to see example and don't want to hang on you for that existing thing...
I'll see if there is tool but I'm really looking for media and text together on a page (not just text) like what you have in that microblog section. Can call it quits for this if you want.
