Makerspaces are fine, but they are really a poor substitute for the "indistrial arts" and "home economics" shops and kitchens and well-supplied art studios we had in the 1970's and 1980's. Yes, I realize this post can be labled "back in my day things we better."
@ferrous it took me a few days, but I posted this blog yesterday: https://hackscience.education/2023/06/07/on-industrial-arts/
@garyackerman
Thank you!
@garyackerman born in 94 here.. we had both a wood shop, a welding shop, a sewing room, and a test kitchen with like 4 stoves at my school! I didn't realize how cool that was until I met kids from the suburbs in college. I went to school in a rural district, so I guess we were just cool like that. With all that being said, my maker space has tools that are wayyyy nicer today.
@garyackerman could you say more about these?
I was only born in 1978, so I guess I pretty much missed them.
