Problem framing is more important than problem solving.

The simplicity (and low expense) of setting up a network for use by consumers hides the complexity of planning, configuring, and managing an enterprise level network necessary in schools.

Students, teachers, and school administrators live and work in a dynamic and evolving environment in which outcomes have multiple causes and an action may have multiple effects. To attribute any changes to your interventions is misguided.

If decision-making is to be fact-driven, then it cannot be undertaken to support a political or economic conclusion that is established prior to beginning.

Common understanding is more important than agreement in almost every situation.

“Learning games” are cognitive activities that causes learners to interact with information and that leads to understanding sufficiently sophisticated that it can be used flexibly.

If it has progressed to "buzz word" status, it is not longer what was originally intended.

Last summer, I made a prediction about the length of time a new hire would be here. A colleague assured me I was exactly correct. I don't recall it, so I don't think I can say "I told yo so."

All planners tend to focus on two questions: “What should we do?” and “Why should we do it?”

Clear boundaries are useful to humans, but nature exists along continua.

An organization has a client portal where we can log on. Follow the link to the page, then scroll down through two screens worth of images and "white space" to find the button. Can we go back to the practice of putting important stuff at the top pf the page.

Knowing about things doesn’t really matter. Knowing how they work, what potential effects are, how they change under different circumstances… those are the beginnings of real knowledge.

Here is you regular reminder than a change in the direction of your data (i.e. “the improvement over last year”) may be regression to the mean or variation.

Hey leaders… you really need to pay attention to what you do (you know compared to what you say). Folks pay attention to the differences and judge you accordingly.
