“Did we meet the goal?” answers that don't begin with “It depends….” are not worth hearing.

Those rules you use to decide when a problem is solved.... they are all made up... once you meet them, the problem may still remain, but you are satisfied .

Educators often confuse correlation with causation; they assume actions for which they are responsible caused any improvements in performance on test scores.

"Lack of knowledge... that is the problem." I think Deming missed the point here. We have plenty of knowledge , but not much ability (or willingness ) to be critical of it.

One of the most challenging math education problems I have faced is trying to help older adults understand that the phishers don't really know you are expecting a package from Amazon, they are just guessing and are correct on many days.

I feigned cynicism over my career to hide the fact that I was really trying to understand what we were doing in a deep way. The last several years, my cynicism has turned more authentic and I wonder aloud "what are we doing here?" often.

One things I learned during 35 years in education: Discussing and reflecting is important for learning, but if your students never get to actually doing something with their new knowledge, then they fail to see the point.

Imagine if folks actually did what they were taught in cybersecurity trainings.

Someone came to our house last weekend... they wanted to watch football... we watched the Vans Pipeline Masters... they were welcome to leave.
