For technology to contribute to efficiently and effectively add value to organizations and its clients, it must function within the purpose of the organization in a sustainable manner. IT is rarely positioned to make these decisions.
Hey school leader… if you faculty and staff using the office as a lounge… tell them to stop. Right now.
We’ve had that misconception since I started in the late 1980’s. The problem has become more acute in the generation since learning outcomes and standards became out mantras.
“Stay in your lane” is silly advice until you meet folks who really need to stay in their own lane.
Be careful what you teach folks first. It becomes their default rationale… sometimes for decades. I know folks who insist in deleting every email “to save room on the server.”
Once we normalized opinions over facts, we doomed ourselves.
Committee chair: I don’t want to have a remote option for my meetings.
Later: Attendance is terrible at my meetings.

I enjoy the “what is this?” posts when knowledgeable people explain simple things. Lizard tails is my recent favorite in this genre.
Early in my career in education, I thought vouchers were a good idea. Then I saw the reality of schools and families and the lies people tell about market economies.
We support Zoom and Meet. We use Gmail/ Worksoaces and many folks have Office (various versions 2016-2021) installed. Serious proposal to pilot Teams as that will “improve our communication.” 🤦♂️
I’ve been told by IT that I need to loop them in before putting IT in grants. When I do, I’m yelled at (literally) for adding to their work and not understanding what I’m doing. That is why I don’t include them.
On thing I learned during my career in education: watch who is leaving. They tell you the real story of leadership.
Yes, you should report phishing attempts to IT, but don’t accuse them of doing nothing to stop them.
Hey IT in schools: Teachers cannot tell if the systems function in the manner they anticipate until it is actually used at scale with students.
