There does remain situations in which teachers cannot predict the systems and IT capacity they need. IT professional who cannot manage such unpredictability should avoid working in schools.

Just when all the elementary school students are becoming familiar with the technology and their work, the school year ends, and teachers (and IT professionals) must prepare for a new group of neophytes.

I live in the northeast USA. There is an inverse relationship between the production of chlorophyll in trees and the number of tour busses slowing resident's commute.

School may not be what you remember. (Actually, we know human memory is not reliable, so your school experience is certainly not what you remember.)

IT professionals working in school should be prepared to support teachers in their efforts to create accessible materials.

Teachers must ensure materials can be perceived through multiple senses.

A former colleague used to tell the story of getting pulled over for speeding on the way to work one morning. According to his story, the officer said, “If you give me a good excuse, I won’t write the speeding ticket.” He replied, “I’m a teacher and I have to make copies for my students.” He did not get the ticket. I do not recommend trying to see if if the story might be reasonable.

"Why don't you just have AI summarize it?"

Because I am interested in making sense of it, not just having a summary .

Much that one “knows” about school is a misconception.

Many who hired are as IT professionals in schools have training and expertise that gives them deep knowledge of IT but they find the strategies that were effective in those other businesses and industries are not as effective in schools.

No IT professional wants users of their systems to be ineffective and complaining.

It’s strange that faculty can claim both “I never use AI” and “I can spot AI generated text a mile away.”

As I recall from my time studying under some of the leading experts in the field at UVM in the 1980’s, changes were made to decrease acid rain. Using science to guide decisions helps alleviate problems, thus making folks think it was never a problem.

I buy and read used books. I judge the previous readers by the quality of their marginalia.
