I enjoy the “what is this?” posts when knowledgeable people explain simple things. Lizard tails is my recent favorite in this genre.

Early in my career in education, I thought vouchers were a good idea. Then I saw the reality of schools and families and the lies people tell about market economies.

We support Zoom and Meet. We use Gmail/ Worksoaces and many folks have Office (various versions 2016-2021) installed. Serious proposal to pilot Teams as that will “improve our communication.” 🤦‍♂️

I’ve been told by IT that I need to loop them in before putting IT in grants. When I do, I’m yelled at (literally) for adding to their work and not understanding what I’m doing. That is why I don’t include them.

On thing I learned during my career in education: watch who is leaving. They tell you the real story of leadership.

Yes, you should report phishing attempts to IT, but don’t accuse them of doing nothing to stop them.

Hey IT in schools: Teachers cannot tell if the systems function in the manner they anticipate until it is actually used at scale with students.

There does remain situations in which teachers cannot predict the systems and IT capacity they need. IT professional who cannot manage such unpredictability should avoid working in schools.

Just when all the elementary school students are becoming familiar with the technology and their work, the school year ends, and teachers (and IT professionals) must prepare for a new group of neophytes.

I live in the northeast USA. There is an inverse relationship between the production of chlorophyll in trees and the number of tour busses slowing resident's commute.

School may not be what you remember. (Actually, we know human memory is not reliable, so your school experience is certainly not what you remember.)

IT professionals working in school should be prepared to support teachers in their efforts to create accessible materials.

Teachers must ensure materials can be perceived through multiple senses.
