One things I learned as an #edtech professional: Those who complain their students don't read the syllabus are the some ones who don't read the step-by-step guides we make.

“Repairs are being made, but there is still not communication about what our technology can and should do.”

This describes too many IT departments in schools.

I recently found this sentence from a paper I wrote in 2011:

In first elucidating technology acceptance model (TAM), Davis observed that information and computer technology “offers the potential for substantially improving white collar performance,” but that “gains are often obstructed by users’ unwillingness to accept and use available systems” (Davis 1989, p. 319).

Davis' observtion is still accurate.

Education is both a field of study and a technology. Whereas researchers identify unanswered questions, design methods to gather data, and analyze those data to answer the questions; practitioners design curriculum and instructional interventions to meet the needs of humans.

Once a system is created its purpose becomes its perpetuation .

In education. we solve lots of problems. They are not often the correct problems, but we congratulate ourselves for solving them.

Wicked problems are hard to define, causation is difficult to clarify, and we don't agree on their existence or resolution.

Much that we encounter in school is wicked.

We cannot engineer solution to these problems.

Still, we try to engineer better schools.

New technology tools are fun.... but if you drop each when a new one comes along, then you are missing the point of technology.

Note to technology and other leaders: just because you used it previously does not mean we need to abandon what we are doing and adopt the technology with which you are comfortable.

If you can’t fade the scaffolds, then they aren’t really scaffolds.

There is a used book sale in town today. I’m not going “because I still have books on my to read pile.” That’s never stopped me before… what’s wrong with me?
