See those changes looming? Yeah... you can’t stop them.

Human cognition does not happen in a vacuum. Social and technological environments affect what we think and how we think.

“Music is the effort we make to explain to ourselves how our brains work. We listen to Bach transfixed because this is listening to a human mind.” -Lewis Thomas

"Our networks are awash in data. A little of it is information. A smidgen shows up as knowledge. Combined with ideas, some of that is actually useful." - Clifford Stoll

So much that is called is just refining irrelevant details.

Collecting the relevant data is not always straightforward... ... are you listening?

The ability to discern information is a very valuable skill that necessitates we understand ideas rather than simply information This is lost on who teach information and ignore ideas.

I learn much about people (especially leaders) by attending to their answer to the question, “How do you know?”

I find it distressing to see people, children and adults (too) settings goals over which they have little or no control.

Too much information get in the way of thinking in the same way too many initiates get in the way of progress.

If your idea cannot be tested, I will reject it.

In our tough, complex, and partly random world, many features don’t make sense. It does not mean they are wrong, it’s just they don’t appear to make sense… to you… at this moment.

Stephen Jay Gould said this of Freud’s psychology: It “was bold, wildly beyond data, speculative in the extreme, idiosyncratic—and wrong.”

The same can be said of many ideas kicking around today.
