The German office for data protection and freedom of information hosts the official #Mastodon server for government departments

They are now calling for all ministries on the server to put their focus on Mastodon

They are also asking ministries which are not yet on Mastodon to join as soon as possible

in silico Plants is an open-access, peer-reviewed online journal dealing with all aspects of plant modelling. It's a great venue for tackling the interdisciplinary nature of plant modelling.

So, things are getting kind of interesting.

In the last few hours the new user rate has jumped from around 1000 per hour to more than 2500 per hour. While this is a big increase, it is nothing like back on Nov 18, when the average was over 10,000 new users per hour.

Still, this does feel like a new surge. Mastodon struggle back in November with the last wave. Let's hope we're ready for what comes next. Big shout out to the amazing admins and moderators all over the world!

@mastodon.social and @mastodon.lol have closed new user registrations.

Most of the larger instances are still open. Consider joining a somewhat less populated instance. There are thousands of instances and each one will give you full access to the fediverse.

Amazing. When I checked this story (about #Musk getting #booed on stage at a #Chappelle gig) a couple of hours ago it had 3 embedded #Twitter videos of the booing on it. Since then Musk has had all 3 removed and had the account that posted them deleted —not suspended, deleted—completely.

There's no longer any pretence of it being a free, pluralistic platform.

We have had 3 more instances sign up to the United Federation of Instances in the last 24 hours or so.

Still around 200K members but I really am getting excited at all this momentum.

Setup a cool little verified link system too where members of the UFoI can add a verified link to their profile.

If you are an instance admin and want to join, whether your instance is 1 user or 100000, just let me know, as long as you follow our code of ethics I can add you and you will show as a founding member on the website once we launch.

The working prototype right now works for admins only, yes.. but i will be adding something similar for users. The idea is every registered user will have a little page on the website that will have a "card" of their details (their status, whether they are an admin, on the counsel, just a user, etc)... so it will work for regular users soon.

So I did a test on using verified link with the #UFoI website... works well. The plan will be anyone in the UFoI can register as a member and then have a verified link in their profile

I am now compiling a list of all servers who may have an interest in joining the United Federation of Instances.

Quite a few instances have already signed up.

Please reach out to me, all servers of any size are welcome!

This is non binding, its just to get a preliminary list. You can withdrawl at any time and dont have to go through the application process. I just want to know what servers to reach out to once we begin kicking things off.

If you are a server admin please let me know **in DM** if you have an interest and I will add you to the (for now) private list. I want to only release the list once we have enough momentum so please respond in DM only.
