Since I'm trying to phase out tagging everyone individually, as it feels a bit scammy, but everyone asked to be kept in the loop... so here are some alternate "official" ways the conversation should continue:

1) On the official Gitlab repository, which is where all voting and formal discussions will take place

gitlab.com/ufoi/constitution

2) The group found here for mastodon discussions (just tag them instead of everyone): @ufoi

3) On matrix chat. :matrix.org

And of sourse you are all welcome to contact me directly. I am very excited how there is so much talk about it and it hasnt even been released for 24 hours yet!

@freemo

Can't get Element to work with my old chromebook. Will I be able to get by with tag, gitlab and @ufoi ?

@EubieDrew

Gitlab is ultimately where the vote happens, so it will be the most critical to be involved. Obviousaly you are missing out on some conversation by not being in the matrix, but at least its not where the final decisions take place.

@ufoi

@EubieDrew

If Element doesn't work, you can try any other matrix client. There are terminal options or even access it through the web.

@freemo @ufoi

@barefootstache @EubieDrew @freemo @ufoi Matrix client, yay! New stuff to learn tangent to (but necessary for) ultimately having decent social micro-blogging!

Anyone familiar with "yak shaving?"

It's OK... I'm just a bit stretched with half of my heart in another country giving aid in a family emergency.

Welp ... that's what Elon Musk is trying at twitter.
Time will tell how well that plays out, but in the meantime, we're trying to do things differently in the Fediverse, if I understand correctly what y'all are trying to do.

@tatzelbrumm @ufoi
I was thinking more along the lines of "mottos in general," referencing the Ghostbusters quote. I wasn't thinking of UFoI. :)

But when I think of mottos in general, this one does come to my mind.

@freemo I believe you intended "spammy" rather than "scammy", but yeah... I'll put a follow on @ufio and tag "just in case." I'll also check out the Matrix Chat, but at this point I'll have to consider it a part of "yak shaving."

For those unaware of the idiom, "Yak shaving refers to a task, that leads you to perform another related task and so on, and so on — all distracting you from your original goal."

My ORIGINAL goal is "I'd like to micro-blog chat with people over the issues of the day and socialize, like the best of what Twitter could be, only without Twitter.

seems to be an insurance policy on keeping Mastodon on that track, but as such is "a related task to the goal." Then Matrix is ... "a related task to a related task..."

@freemo a.gup.pe/u/ufoi shows a goldfish, likely a default page, likely could use a bit of dress-up.

Just a loose thought:

Maybe there should be changes to the code, which would allow people and instances to tag themselves as adhering (or not) to certain principles, which then would allow individual people to filter instances and people according to their own tags, and administrators to filter those people/instances which behave discordantly with their own tagging. That should deal with the criticism that some people are so traumatized or fragile that they cannot even risk being exposed to certain content and therefore preventive censorship is needed in order to help them. Instead of making decisions for them, admins then could just allow users a choice: do you want certain kinds of filters, or not?

@freemo
Is there an blog post or some other announcement page on the web that introduces @ufoi and gives a brief overview?

@strypey

Ther eis the webpage, its not live yet and the apply page doesnt work yet (message me if you want to apply) but it might help give you a brief elevator pitch:

UFoI.org

Also we are working on the proposal document which still isnt complete but gives a nice overview as well:

ufoi.gitlab.io/constitution/un

You can also ask me any questions you have.

From www.dictionary.com/browse/coun…
1. an assembly of persons summoned or convened for consultation, deliberation, or advice.
2. a body of persons specially designated or selected to act in an advisory, administrative, or legislative capacity: the governor's council on housing.

Whereas www.dictionary.com/browse/coun… is a related but more in the sense of the advice given than a consultative
group itself.
