Never forget, multimodal streets (aka “complete streets”) are simply more efficient, because they move, hold & serve more PEOPLE within the same space. Whether you think streets are just for moving people, or are for a LOT more, they’re just better. Via @NACTO.

This is the biggest news on the planet right now, although I understand how most folks don't think so yet. But it has the potential to be literally world changing.

Water Quality, Great Lakes, and Invasive species. This is the best book I've read in awhile. If you are interested in the invasive species issue and opening of the St Lawerence Seaway, this book is for you. A sad tale indeed.

Why is it so important to protect nature and biodiversity?
-- by Jeannette Cwienk, for DW News

"up to 70% of the world's harvests are directly or indirectly dependent on intact polders and mangrove swamps, in part because they protect land used to grow food crops from flooding."

It is not about homes. @fordnation@twitter.com just lowered the density target in the Growth Plan from 80 to 50 people/jobs/ha - a 37.5% decrease - not doing alone could have provided for many more than the 50,000 houses he is seeking to put on the GreenBelt. #HandsOffTheGreenbelt

I'm not an immunologist, so don't ask me if COVID-induced immune dysregulation is what is causing the current crisis. But a strict reading of the available evidence compels me to assign a Bayesian probability of 50% to its likelihood. That's more than enough for me to try to avoid getting infected (and getting my child infected) at almost all costs.

“Local stores next to the protected bike lane have seen a 49% increase in sales, compared to an average of 3% for Manhattan as a whole.”

I am... overwhelmed by the support and solidarity! Our community absolutely showed up for the #Bill23 demonstration today and, despite the cold and difficult times we face, I feel elated. I'm going to consolidate my photos and share a thread over the weekend. Thank you #ldnont🫶

I didn’t realize this is a thing, but , did you know that you can hire help with your ? I used to joke I would make a better PI if I had an MBA, instead of a PhD in Ecology. Well, you can hire someone with MBA skills to help you with tasks you hate and generally suck at and it isn’t even that $$$!

For just $35/h, someone else can reformat your CV, reconcile your statement, or fill in expense claims! Imagine the FREEDOM!

I just wanted to say how happy I am here at Mastodon. People here are decidedly human. Kind humans. Ones that are able to have a conversation without spewing propaganda. Ones that respect one another. Being here gives me hope that all isn't lost, and that there are enough of us to make the world brighter.

Please, everyone, keep this alive. We need discourse. We need kindness. We need each other.

It's not about whether you personally want to or need to drive. It’s about understanding the simple truth that in cities, if everyone tries to move by car, no one moves much at all. So the more of us that are enticed to walk, bike & take transit, the better it is for EVERYONE.
