I've seen people complaining about how performs on . Perhaps it is an expectations problem, because this to me look great considering it is a tiny and cheap handheld system! youtube.com/watch?v=XnaieQMpvT

@gpowerf Then I wonder what they'll think of the Switch version, I doubt it'll be glorious.

@Geekymary quite :) I have Sonic Frontiers on both Xbox Series and Switch. Switch looks kinda rough, but essentially you get access to the same game on pretty old hardware. IMHO, that's great.

Maybe I am easy to please, but I don't mind turning down graphics detail.

@Geekymary PS: sadly I got bored of that Sonic game and don't play it anymore...

@gpowerf There are a few stutters in places but it definitely looks playable on the SteamDeck. Thanks for posting that.

@gpowerf cheap? $400 to $650 is more expensive than the Switch, Xbox Series S, X and the PS5! In any case, I felt the FFVII Remake ran terrible on the Deck, until I modified the settings and then it ran great and looked better than the default configuration.

@mbrio oh really? It is priced lower than Series X and PS5 here. I didn't know PS5 and Series X were at sub $400 dollar prices in some regions.

@gpowerf yeah, the cheapest Deck configuration ($399) is more expensive than the Switch ($349) and cheapest Xbox ($299) and the most expensive Deck ($649) is more expensive than the most expensive Xbox ($599) and PS5 ($499). At least here in the US! Even the middle Deck($529) is more expensive than the PS5!

@mbrio oh. I see what you mean.

But back to your original question, I think it is cheap. Especially the cheapest one, which is much more affordable than pretty much anything but a Series S. It is close to Switch, which is a price point where families can get several handhelds.

@gpowerf I don’t completely agree, I think there are a lot of families that would be hard pressed to buy multiple Decks, I have two in my family, but that was a really hard sell. I DO think it’s an incredible device, and you definitely get what you pay for! The library of games is incredible, and so many games run well on it. Not to mention all of the support Valve is pumping into it. I do not regret the buy one bit! I wouldn’t want them to drop the price if it meant a drop in quality!

@gpowerf
They're probably seeing the weird random stuttering issues and thinking it's because of the deck performance, but those are showing up in all the versions of the game I think

@mrpresidenttom that's my understanding too. There's a lot of hope pinned on the first performance patch.

But FWIW, when I am playing on an affordable handheld some stuttering for a game like this is something I can endure. Its fine.

@gpowerf
Did you end up getting one? You were still deciding a few months ago iirc
