@gedeonm I’ve had issues with people just jumping into responses with negative attitudes. My solution in Mastodon is block quick.
@tek I have a modern Canon G2000 series that you just refill with ink (no expensive cartridges) that works perfectly with my Linux box over USB and seems to do no crazy crap.
Continuing the trends of newer games coming to older consoles, we have Gunslugs, the new Sega Genesis game. #Gunslugs https://gamesense.co/game/gunslugs/news/discuss/gunslugs-is-now-available-for-the-sega-genesis/
@berkough I see :) Where I grew up we experienced BBC Micros and Acorn Archimedes, both nice machines but they were not common outside school :)

I'm a big ChromeOS fan, and I've bought into the Google ecosystem. It is interesting... Most of the schools I went to growing up had all Apple computers. But that never translated to the business environment. I learned Windows on my own at home, and then in college. Google is basically doing what Apple did in the 90s, and I don't think it's going to work unless they start to open up the environment beyond the Chromium developer docs.
@retrosponge same. I'm OK using their products for personal stuff that's not essential, I'm happy to use gmail, or ChromeOS but I'm always ready to migrate :)
Seems like Google is trying to capture the young generation by providing them with their products and services at home and school. This is similar to how many people grew up with DOS and Windows and became loyal to Microsoft for a lifetime. Google is hoping that their users will stick with them for the long term.
However, I also wonder if Google can support ChromeOS for that long without losing interest or abandoning it. Google has a history of killing off many of their products, such as Google Reader, Google Plus, Google Hangouts, Stadia, and more. Will they do the same Chromebooks and ChromeOS eventually? Only time will tell.
I'm saying this as a #chromeos user. 😊

Google working with Mongolia to provide Chromebooks to all its students and teachers https://9to5google.com/2023/08/04/google-chromebook-mongolia/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon
No discounts or warnings for people shopping EoL Chromebooks on Amazon, Walmart
No security or feature updates, but selling as "new."
@postfilm Brutalism in sand castle form is something that I didn't know existed. And yeah, I'm a brutalist architecture fan.

@trinsec I know what you mean, I had to readapt to mechanical after only using laptops.
The two extremes can be bad, Apple used to do some super short travel ones that were just unusable. I returned one of those MacBook Pros with super short keyboard travel because frankly, I could not use the thing!
I admire the dedication of some keyboard enthusiasts, but I cannot share their passion for customizing every single switch. I enjoy a good keyboard, with a satisfying mechanical feel, a colourful LED display, and a sturdy base. But spending hours disassembling and lubricating each switch to achieve the perfect sound? That is beyond my level of patience and interest. I can appreciate the difference in sound quality, and I can tell when a keyboard has been fine-tuned. But I would rather use my time for other things.
Keyboard nerdom and tuning is an art form, just not the art form for me. :) #keyboard
@viktor I'd be tempted to build a PC for home and run two distros on it, Ubuntu or Pop!_OS for daily use and SteamOS for gaming :)
@viktor I agree, SteamOS is phenomenal.
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
