Swears, pandemic lies

@haven4books I work at a University who no longer has a masking policy, I got COVID for the 2nd time 2 weeks ago, lasted for 12 days, almost turned into pneumonia and my already damaged lungs are more broken than ever, and I am not sure the cough I got will ever go away. #COVIDisNOTover

All the EU states seem to be increasingly ignoring agreed but now awkward EU law.

E.g., the previous RT on #Ireland ; #Germany or #Denmark ignoring Schengen rules ; #Poland allowing political interference of the judicial ; #Sweden not using the € ; #hungary ignoring the rule-of-law ...

A rules-based union has no purpose whatsoever if the rules are not followed. #EU institutions need to step up enforcement actions or risk (not the break up of the EU but) simply becoming irrelevant.

Another thing #covid and #climate have in common is that many people neglect the co-benefits of acting.

Improving ventilation and indoor air quality improves learning and protects from other infectious diseases.

Active transportation like walking and cycling improves health.

Lots of opportunities are left on the table because of the bias (actively created) that we live in the best possible world right now and change = sacrifice.

@jakluge they are also without a doubt ramping up artillery shell capacity. The West has been far to slow in doing the same.

#Russia is still manufacturing lots of weapons, including sophisticated ones. There was a lot of wishful thinking about critical shortages due to #sanctions, but it is more likely that Russia is ramping up production, while capacity is an issue everywhere.

Ugh! This is unbearable! How great it is that when russia strikes us every day, that is not escalation. It’s only us who can escalate. Same way wife that gets beaten escalates by reporting the husband after he’s beaten her again. NYT needs to work through their identity crisis.

Lawyers for Republicans had to define "woke" in court recently. This is what they submitted.

"The belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them"

Think about what that means when folks hurl "woke" as an insult.

UDCA may block COVID infection

12/5/22 Nature: FXR inhibition may protect from #SARSCoV2 infection by reducing ACE2 buff.ly/3UxyUzA

Ursodeoxycholic acid (#UDCA) , an FXR blocker, is a generic drug used for liver disease. It downregulates ACE2.

UDCA (aka Ursodiol or Actigall) has been used for cholestasis of pregnancy.

This study used UDCA in organoids, mouse/hamster models and in people and shows that UDCA may block or reduce the severity of #COVID infections.
