Actual small-town rural life maybe involved a rifle for hunting. Now reactionaries have been convinced by gun manufacturers, through their quislings at the NRA, that a true authentic American lifestyle involves owning multiple military weapons. Just absolute chumps.

Bottomless. You can't get ahead of it, you can't mock it. It's always stupider than you can imagine.

You can try to think, "what is stupider than stupid? What's the absolute stupidest?" But you're outmatched here. You're out of your league. You have to train for years to be this stupid.

With the exception of a handful of famous historic events that happen once every few centuries, this is literally and demonstrably NOT how science progresses.

Classic Dmitry Medvedev. At a gas infrastructure conference today, he said the Europeans have had to switch to coal and wood, “but not us!” Meanwhile, 4 million households in Russia rely on stove heating. In some eastern regions, it’s 40–90% of all homes. t.me/bbbreaking/145462

I’d been hearing about the coal-mine protests in Germany, but this photo by Sean Gallup is the first that gave me a real sense of the titanic size of the thing and what’s being protested. Just… unreal.

@Billius27@mstdn.ca one thing most people don't know is that in Ontario getting a booster after 3 months is now possible for anybody without jumping through any hoops (unlike in the past). just come to a pharmacy and get a shot.

The people who said “counting covid deaths within 28 days of a positive test would overcount” are the same people who will happily attribute anything bad that happens to someone after they’ve had a vaccine to the vaccine, how ever long ago they had it.

#Canada can't have high-speed passenger rail, right?

It's not Europe, eh. We're spread out!

Except that half the country's population (18 million people+) live along the narrow corridor from Windsor to #Quebec City.

So why are we still relying on airplanes and low-speed, always-late diesel trains rather than hi-speed electric?
