@trinsec yikes.
Former mayoral candidate Gil Penalosa is not letting Ana Bailão off easy after yesterday's smear tactic directed at 'lefty' candidates.
"Why would Bailão worry about Cllr Matlow adopting some of my policies?
I wish Bailão herself would adopt some of my housing policies. She led #Housing while #Toronto councillor & deputy mayor and didn't make a dent in the crisis. Her [housing plan] 'CreateTO'.. in 5 yrs did not have a shovel in the ground. Failure."
There are moments when a conversation leaves you speechless and immediately expands your worldview. When I chatted with United States Army veteran, feminist, writer and trans activist Charlotte Clymer, that is exactly what happened.
As many know, the Republicans have targeted the trans community with particular viciousness and ferocity in the past two years and we want to understand what’s behind it a bit more deeply. At a more fundamental level, we want to hear from trans people like Charlotte about common myths and misconceptions and what it’s like to be trans in America today.
Importantly, those of us who are horrified by the legislative attacks on trans identity and hate crimes against trans people want to know how we can best be allies in this struggle.
Please consider taking the time to hear directly from Charlotte about what is currently happening: https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/five-questions-with-charlotte-clymer

Shame on @amnesty for not getting rid of @AgnesCallamard. The organization has lost all credibility and thousands of supporters https://twitter.com/neilphauer/status/1651910940491673601
How are you doing, friends and colleagues? Let’s end this week in solidarity. I’m a family doctor and trustee in Ottawa, Canada. Here and worldwide, #AbortionIsHealthcare and #TransRightAreHumanRights. We need, more than ever, to be advocates and allies. Will you join the chorus?

Is Covid "like the flu"?
We asked how many years (pre-2020) it would take for flu & pneumonia cumulative death rates to equal 3 years of Covid
Answer: 17 years
In one state, Hawaii: Covid deaths were like recent (unusually high) flu deaths
Otherwise: nope

@SimpleRobC @ChrisO_wiki In Russia there is a long tradition of not blaming the tsar for anything. Putin has tapped into it and cultivated it. US often goes to the other extreme btw with presidents being blamed for absolutely every possible problem.
@boby_biq thanks again. Ivory has been my main (and only) Mastodon ios client since it came out. I like it although the way it loads old messages is beyond annoying. The developer clearly only aimed at heavy users and didn't think of the people who only use the app occasionally.
but I mostly access Mastodon via web browser on my computer. It is more feature rich than any 3rd party app I tried but has an extremely clunky UI. I'll take a look at the other apps you mention.
