Ever wondered what it looks like at night?
This had quite a large moon so in usual fashion you cant expose for it and the MW at once, so superimposed a bit more detail with a secondary shot.
This was a 7 shot vertical panoramic (cropped later) with a 14mm lens

One of my latest deep space photos. This is close to 16 hours on the Triangulum Galaxy, named for the constellations we see it through.
Here's a green flash I photographed a few years ago at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile, back when I worked there. This phenomenon happens at sunset or sunrise if conditions are right, especially if the atmosphere is strongly layered.
This is a rapid burst of shots taken one after the other. The whole sequence lasted only two seconds, which gives you an idea of how ephemeral green flashes are.
Work in progress: 3-panel mosaic on the California Nebula.
Left: original coloring.
Right: Ha (reds) and [OIII] (blues) separated and recombined.
I only managed time to get 3 hours on each panel, originally imaged at 1.2 arcseconds per pixel. Posted here at half resolution.
Final version and full details on AstroBin coming later today. #astrophotography #astrodon
Vice-President #kamalaharris congrats #NASA on its successful #Artemis1 mission: "We're one step closer to returning astronauts to the #moon."
Harris and the #WhiteHouse have been busy in the space scene for much of 2022, as I explain for Space.com.

The last view of #Earth from #space from NASA's #Artemis1 with ... a quote from #Apollo13 the movie that came to mind after I rewatched the film for the billionth time this weekend. #spacelove
Congrats to everyone involved in the successful splashdown!
I just presented Data Organization for Astrophotographers at #astropalooza! The slides are available here for anyone who wants to review them at their own pace. #astronomy #astrophotography

My most recent capture. This was from last night and it was the first clear night in weeks. It also was my first night with my new mount, the ZWO AM5. I’m a big fan. This is the soul nebula, captured in SHO. #soulnebula #astrophotography #astronomy #zwo #am5
The Western Veil nebula, aka the witches broom 🙂 part of a supernova remnant in the constellation of cygnus.
So this image is actually a combination of data from two different telescopes of mine. The Altair 115 triplet and the Altair 200mm newt
Image is 20x240s on the 115 triplet with dual band filter taken back in July, combined with 55x 180s with the 200mm newt (now at f3.8..thank you nexus) taken last night 😄also with the dual band filter .
Wow! This is my first time imaging Seagull Nebula (IC 2177). This is only 3h of data, but I will be grabbing more exposure time whenever I can while it is "high" in the sky. So pretty!

Composite of last night's #Moon using 155 stacked images. 96.6% waning gibbous 🌖
We now know the 8 artists who will fly around the #moon with a Japanese billionaire in the coming years in a #SpaceX spacecraft. One is #EveryDayAstronaut #YouTube channel creator Tim Dodd!

I'll shoot anything, but my preference is to shoot the stars.

@AlexSanterne Around 11 hours on the Horsehead and Flame Nebulae from Bottle 5 skies. Equipment used: William Optics Zenithstar 81 with 0.8x reducer, QHY268C, SkyWatcher HEQ5 Pro, the only filter I used was a UV/IR cut filter. #YourBestAstroPic2022 #astrophotography #astrodon #space

When I use both darks and bias my shots are ending up extremely grainy, but when I use each separately they're much nicer (albeit still with some background noise)
Am I doing something wrong?
Picture order is: both -> darks -> bias (details in the media descriptions)
So this is 37,000+ year old starlight filtered through some dust clouds above a clump of star stuff thats managed to organize itself into the adventure capital of New Zealand

I fell in love with space as a teenager, after watching the movie Apollo 13 in 1996. I still want to be an astronaut!
