My latest attempt at learning Pixinsight. #astrophotography #Astrodon
I think it's a bit over the top and needs work, but a huge step forward for me.
"Down through the airlock with lots of toys, all for the astronauts' #Christmas joys."

An early try of my new 533MC Pro Astro camera. 5 hours 9th December, Full moon combat with a dual band filter, I think just about making the time worthwhile. Here’s the Elephant trunk nebula, 2400 light years away, a little Googling and I think when this light left the nebula Alexander The Great was defeating Persia! #Astrophotography
Speaking of #Astrodon …
This is the #horseheadnebula and he #flamenebula imaged in HSS (I don’t have an Oiii filter yet, maybe next year!).

Updated #introduction time. I’m a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Glasgow, interested in energy homeostasis and sickness behaviour Research interests include #adipocytes #adiposetissue #metabolism #immunometabolism #immunity and #IL-17 ! I also founded The STEM Village, an initiative to promote visibility of #LGBTQ people in #STEM 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ you can find out more on our website https://www.thestemvillage.com or our #YouTube channel https://youtube.com/@thestemvillage3092
Time to finally do a proper #introduction here before the year is out.
👋 I’m a #ClimateScientist, #geophysicist, #educator and associate #professor @ McGill University in #Canada. My research group works on understanding #SeaLevel and #IceSheets in past, current and future #climate using #NumericalModeling tools and geophysical and geological observations.
Passionate about #education, #outreach, #interdisciplinary research + training and supporting #equity + #inclusion in #academia and #stem.
So this is much better. My first half way decent picture of the constellation Orion. In the city. #Astrophotography #ConstellationOrion
The Copernicus Crater on the Moon.
It may have been created by debris from the breakup of the parent body of asteroid 495 Eulalia 800 million years ago. It's about 93 kms wide.

Iris Nebula (in LRGB)
The Iris Nebula is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. The designation NGC 7023 refers to the open cluster within the larger reflection nebula designated LBN 487. The nebula, which shines at magnitude +6.8, is illuminated by a magnitude +7.4 star designated SAO 19158.(Wikipedia)

Quick #BlurXterminator test with #PixInsight. The star shapes in the original are pretty terrible, and while far from perfect in the result (right), quite a lot better. Definitely going to test this more. If only there would be some clear nights to get new data to play with!
The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) a spiral galaxy at around 2.7 million lightyears from earth. It’s part of the neighbouring Local group of galaxies.
Shot yesterday with small telescope (60mm apo). Total integration time was 2 hours. #astrodon #astrophotography

So this ones for Mum, welcome to #Mastodon !
I dont shoot star trails too often but was out at Magnet bay New years eve and whilst having some fun I just setup one of my cameras to shoot a trails shot, got lucky with a touch of Aurora.
Came out quite busy but isnt that what a trails shot is all about?
