Here's what people on the outside looking in, don't get, Mastodon isn't an alternative to other social media, it is its own thing entirely.
That's what struck me about it, and why I'm still there. People on Mastodon didn't care how many people were on it or if their favorite celebrity or journalist was here. They want to build communities with real people.
All these kinds of articles are basically stating, "This wasn't for me, therefore these things are failures." How absolutely ridiculous.
Whenever someone tells you that the climate crisis is a personal responsibility issue, show them this:
The climate crisis is a billionaires crisis, a trillion-dollar corporations crisis, a capitalism crisis, a systemic inequality crisis.

A small FAQ to hopefully help new users to kbin
I wanted to post this here since I want to help as much as I can in my own way to people coming here for the first time. I hope it is useful and helpful! I tried to assume low knowledge with the Fediverse in my responses which I collected here from a different post and assembled into a single article.... #faq #kbin https://kilioa.org/m/kbinMeta@kbin.social/t/266
Specially proud of today’s record-breaking time. Breaking any record is now an achievement, but getting 5 min on a Sunday is just 💪

Sad to see it finally happening. Apollo, the best iOS app for Reddit, closes on June 30. They won’t be the only, and it seems Reddit got what they wanted, kill all 3rd party apps.
Another sign that social sites are in self-destruct mode and now, more than ever, it’s critical to own your content. https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/
Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/

There's a really good community feature on here called groups. It works like this:
1. Follow a group's account
2. You will start seeing posts on that topic
3. You can post to the group by @-ing it
For example, follow @tea to see posts about tea.
It's more powerful than following hashtags, as all group posts are actively pushed to all of the group's members. No one misses anything.
Find out more at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/, and I've curated some nice active groups at https://fedi.directory/tag/fediverse-groups/
And like Twitter, Reddit is going full greedy and committed to kill third-party apps like Apollo and destroy their service. Every day, it’s clearer that open alternatives are the only way for social media. As for me, I’ll slowly walk away from Reddit and increase my focus on Micro.blog and Mastodon. https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/13ws4w3/had_a_call_with_reddit_to_discuss_pricing_bad/
