Happy Christmas
A Child’s Christmas in Wales (1987) - This tale of enchantment is inspired by the classic poem from Dylan Thomas.
Ironically, mostly filmed about as far away from the sea as you can get in Wales!
Rishi Sunak says nurses' pay offer appropriate and fair https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-64003276

While I wouldn’t say I’m a great fan of #cycling when it’s barely above freezing, it does have certain likeable features. For a start I hardly sweat and the wind chill factor certainly wipes away any sleepiness and you can forget your other problems for a while. On the down side, my fingers and toes soon start to feel numb. Today is very #sunny and so I had the rather incongruous pleasure of wearing #sunglasses in #December.
I am a retired nurse since 2006.
I worked for 12 years in A&E followed by 29 years as a Nurse Practitioner in General Practice.
It was pressured then but we have now had 12 years of austerity, Brexit, COVID 19 and whatever the Westminster Government claim about all these extra nurses. Where are they?
"This was how one nurse in her 40s described an Accident and Emergency (A&E) department to me, and it sounded all too familiar."

Folks, I'm an editor at #Conservation Biology and we are actively soliciting research papers that focus on "Diversifying Conservation" We want to create a special issue highlighting research from diverse voices, research that highlights #diversity (broadly defined) in conservation, and submissions that may be centered in non-western epistemologies. Abstracts due mid Feb, with research papers at the end of March. Hit me up for more details
Twitter exodus increases as Elon Musk's behavior gets worse

Oh, that was a new one.
Got an email from PayPal about a suspicious payment request. I verified the email came from PayPal, but went into PayPal itself to check. Sure enough, suspicious request, and the note indicated it had been flagged, with a number to call.
I called.
And while I was on the call, went to the PayPal "Contact" link... and realized it was a different number.
The attacker was using the INVOICE NOTE to phish for details.
Hoping I didn't expose to much before I figured it out.
Scientists develop functioning nuclear fusion reactor, decide for safety reasons to anchor it one astronomical unit from the Earth. Power to be beamed back to Earth wirelessly, collected via special silicon based receiver arrays. #GalacticOnion.
@fencoul @BremainInSpain Sadly, I'm also being drawn to this conclusion. Labour don't seem to recognise that (in the bigger picture) they (and the UK) stand to gain massively from PR. Labour will only, grudgingly support PR if they are obliged to form a coalition with PR-supporting parties, but FPTP is a highly unstable voting mechanism which creates hugely disproportionate swings on a tiny overall change in the popular vote.
😡Re the ‘independent pay review body’ quoted so frequently by @SteveBarclay@twitter.com: members are selected by ministers. The government decides on pay.
It might help if media outlets like the #bbc stopped parroting Tory lies. #wato #bbcpm #Ambulance #NursesStrike

The UK is now the ONLY Northern European country not in the Single Market.
Our exports have dropped by 17% since leaving the EU.
Many companies have relocated back into the EU from the UK in order to remain in business.
Pathetically small deals with countries on the other side of the world cannot and will never replace the trade we have thrown away with our closest neighbours.
In addition many products we used to get from fellow European countries are now very difficult to find, including some food products. #Brexit

Here's your irregular reminder that:
Twitter was a multi-billion dollar company with thousands of employees.
Mastodon is a niche hobbyist product run by volunteers
The fact that we're being seen as a viable alternative to them is an admission that a federated, decentralized future is not only possible, but desirable.
Mastodon is not one thing, or one place. It's a network of many things and many places. We don't have a spokesperson (I mean, there's me. I'm the official spokesperson for 💯 of the fediverse, but beyond me there is no spokesperson) we don't have consensus on moderation or blocking or tools or what is good and what is bad. Some of us are professional SREs and Sysadmins, some of us aren't. Some of our instances have been around for 5+ years, some won't be here in six months.
And that's good! All of it, every last bit of it is good.
We're wrestling power away from the billionaire class, in real time, and reclaiming it for the People.
